Donnachaidh (1000+ posts) Wed Oct-05-11 04:03 PMOriginal messageBloomberg, 4th Richest Person in US Due to Wall Street, Is About to Snap the Mouse Trap Shut on Thos http://blog.buzzflash.com/node/13051 You might expect that from a man who is the fourth-wealthiest person in America, with $19.5 billion dollars in his pocket. Moreover, Bloomberg made a lot of money as a Wall Street financier, but he catapulted into the multibillionaire category by revolutionizing financial market information and selling a specialized terminal and access services to the financial industry (followed by Bloomberg media services). In short, his fortune is directly integrated into the Wall Street status quo.:snip:Yesterday, BuzzFlash at Truthout wrote that there is little doubt that law enforcement officials - at the behest of corporate-backed politicians - are infiltrating and planning ways to discredit the Wall Street autumn of democracy. In his plutocratic cloud of personal financial interest and self-serving disdain for the right of assembly, Bloomberg resembles a monarchist, not a mayor.More at the link --
TheWraith (1000+ posts) Wed Oct-05-11 04:35 PMResponse to Original message4. Sorry, but I have to shake my head at the paranoia here. "Yesterday, BuzzFlash at Truthout wrote that there is little doubt that law enforcement officials - at the behest of corporate-backed politicians - are infiltrating and planning ways to discredit the Wall Street autumn of democracy."One, Truthout is a den of liars and plagiarists, and so deserves a hearty **** you. Maybe they'll have more information in 24 business hours. Second, this line about "Oh, they're infiltrating us to try and discredit us!!1" is part and parcel of every large protest from anti-war, to Tea Party, to OWS, and it's pretty much universally a line of total bullshit, peddled in order to deny accountability for the bad behavior of some of the people in the protest. It's not enough to just say "some people behave badly," it has to be blamed on the evil enemy. It's paranoia coupled with a fine display of the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, that no TRUE member of (insert movement name here) could possibly do anything untoward, because they're all saints. The NYPD has pretty clearly demonstrated that they don't need any added excuse to arrest protesters, and fact of the matter is that the large majority of the country still doesn't care.
