I've just about had it with my brother.

It isn't over politics. It's over his drug use and the fact that he screwed off for the last nine months living off his severance package and not looking for work. He hung around the house and smoked pot until he ran out of money. He didn't draw unemployment because he didn't want to bother looking for a job or cleaning up for a piss test. Now he is penniless, drawing unemployment, but asking for money. He hasn't bothered to liquidate his small (less than $10,000) IRA yet, though.

I think I need to let him fall on his butt. He always got help from our parents before. It just aggravates me that it has come to this when he could have had enough money to start over. His health is poor, BTW, due to diabetes.

he sounds like the typical DUmmy.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

8. I'm living in kind of the opposite situation.........
I've been trying to get a job for the past 3 years, without success.........not having a driver's license(thanks Dad, for claiming I wasn't 'ready' for that!) hasn't help at all, and have been highly reluctant to apply for unemployment OR welfare for fear of my parents(especially dad) making a real fuss........P.S. both parents have been Republicans since at LEAST high school.

Well, why aren't you "ready" for a driver's license?  I don't know what's going on here, but if you're 18, you can go ahead and do that.  I assume you're over 18 if you've been looking for any kind of job FOR THREE FREAKING YEARS.

Your parents remember a time that there was a stigma to being on the public dole.  People would use it as a bridge over extremely rough times, and get off it ASAP, because it just didn't feel right.  BTW, you can't get unemployment if you haven't been employed, dipshit.

Anyway, the brother in question from the OP had been arrested for possession some time ago, to which Mr. Stalin replies:

89. The arrests would've affected his self-image whether that was instantly, overtly apparent or not.

The foundation of our lives rests on our self-image and self-esteem, being arrested for most anything other than political protest would serve to damage, not buttress that bedrock foundation.

96. Pot is not an addiction
It may even help with his diabetes. The problem is that work places have the right to drug test you before they hire you, and perhaps random tests at work. What one does on their own time is none of their business. Some pot smokers like myself are good workers, and don't smoke at work. Pot is better than alcohol. More people come to work hung over from booze rather than pot. If not for the drug tests, he may already have a good job. Tell him to spend some money on synthetic piss. In this environment, you have to cheat. He may be able to find some at a cigarette store. Or send him to cannabis.com. He will find the best way to cheat a test.

Always stellar advice at the DUmp.

42. For one thing it wouldn't be "dope" if we didn't have a drug war, it might be medicine.

Furthermore even if it wasn't medicine, the OP's brother might not be concerned about an invasive, Big Brother piss test and thus be more motivated to seek employment.

He could thus function more productively in our modern society and not be worried about being stigmatized.

Absolutely, we should support him....as soon as we finish tarring and feathering his ass we'll support it on a rail as we run him out of town.

It's fake piss, to outfox a drug test.  GOBUCKS is talking about a device that's a fake penis, used to decant the fake piss into the sample bottle and (Ideally) fool the tester.  Wouldn't work in the military because they really do observe your junk while you're filling the bottle, but many private employer tests are not quite as rigorous.

I believe they dehydrate real, drug-free piss to make the synthetic stuff, so it will have the right biochemicals in it in case the employer checks to make sure it isn't yellow food coloring and water, but I couldn't swear to it.

It was working real well for a fellow in Anderson, S.C. a few years ago. He was selling his drug free pee for a premium but the government shut him down.
