I am not "middle class".

I see people on this board lamenting the threat to "the middle class".

Well, what about the working class?

I'm not middle class, I'm working class. I WORK for a living. I have all my life and will for the rest of my life. And at the rate things are going I'll be working even after my so called "retirement" because so called "social security" won't provide enough money for me to live on without continuing to work and earn.

I know I'm FAR from unique.

The war of the classes is NOT between the "wealthy" and the genuine "middle" class (who look wealthy from my pov)...

It is between the wealthy elite and the working class. Always has been, always will be.

45. I'm in the same boat as you ...

Working class moving toward working poor. Personally, I think this whole cluster**** of an argument would be much clearer and easier to make if the Idiocrats (teabaggers) understood that they are no longer the *working class* -- they are fast becoming the working poor and will be left out of the argument all together.

Thanks for making it clearer.

That's the difference between 'us' and 'you'.  We don't care what you want to classify us as.  We're not the working poor or working class ... we're just workers.  We try to spend less than we make and that is what makes us wealthy.

There's more but I'm hungry and am fixing to eat me some TACOS!!

I have been reading that thread off and on all day, laughing with my husband.

What is it about them they have to label everyone ?

Who cares if you're middle class or not ?

They are so damn worried someone will have more than them.  Envy is so ugly.

If they'd mind their own business and tend to their own affairs instead of thinking up ways to steal what they don't have, they'd be better off.

Middle class is a state of mind not a state of luxury.  DUmmies.

13. Anyone who works for an hourly wage, fills out a time sheet, uses a time clock is not middle class

Middle class people are small business owners, professionals like doctors/dentists with a practice, salaried managers and professionals working in organizations, etc.

21. It would depend on the situation

Generally not if they are working for a business owner or manager in a non-supervisory capacity.

Yes if they are a consulting engineer working on a professional contract, i.e. not just the generic, I'll do what you say contract. Yes if they own an engineering firm or other business, or work as a salaried manager in such a firm and have a say in their work, hours, conditions of employment.

24. Interesting definition.

My supervisor makes only about $10K more and basically lives a similar lifestyle as me. Neither him nor myself have any illusions that the rich are not ****ing us over and committing a class genocide against the middle class/working class. I do consider myself middle class (as a subset of working class), though I'm also frugal and tend to not live as lavish a lifestyle as many.

I think we are debating definitions that are useless. Middle Class is a concept and a feeling of economic security. No matter what, we are all getting hosed by the elite.

27. First level supervisors are not really middle-class jobs in many cases

They are more like foremen in a factory. They have some resposibilites for managing in detail the work of their subordinates, many times a heavy load of peer relationships with other groups on the same project, and the need to keep their bosses happy. It's a pretty shitty job for $10 K more.

Living the life style of the next level down is a very practical thing to do. Too many people get into trouble living the "aspriational" life style of the next level up.

Oh, to live the life of a DUmmie.  Envy, labels, loathing...what a wonderful life.

44. mmmm. so when hubby hired a non degreed, unexperienced divorced mom

as a secretary and gave her pay at 30k for a living wage, he is your enemy? and when he continued to pay for increases in health insurance because he thought he owed the employees, he is your enemy. and when that same woman had 5 perscriptions and surgeries and she continued to get a wage he is the enemy. and when she was married and her hubby unemployeed, yet she had to take off work for sick kids, he is the enemy.

when he works 80 hour weeks and doesnt take pay so he can make payroll, he is the enemy?

good to know who your enemy is.

he should have just said.... **** you, to employees, per your post.

Why are you on DU?  They will turn on your family in an instant.  You and your husband are who they loathe. Apparently you priced yourself out of being a member of DU.

Well quit spending all your money on cell phones, big screen TV's, new cars, steaks, cheetos, pot, etc, and save some of it and invest it. Then when you get to retirement age you will have an income stream independent of the government. And no you are not far from unique. Too many people think like you and that is the problem. Me? I save and invest my money. I also invest money in myself in the form of continued education. I plan to be able to retire without ANY SS. Anything I get from that will be gravy.

BTW Prog Moron... I'm not middle class, upper class, lower class or any other class. I am Perky Class. I am an individual. I take care of me and mine. I couldn't care less about you and yours. Unfortunately for me, the fed government takes some of my money by force and gives it to lazy jerks like you.

Which, by definition, makes you middle class.  Middle class folks are like me--punch a time clock (or fill out a timesheet), etc.

And pretty much from the time I entered the workforce part-time at age 13, and full-time at age 17, I've known that there won't be shit left in SS, because you ****ers have looted it beyond all reasonable measure.  This is why I have saved and invested for my future, but your hero Obumbler wants to take even that.

The term "middle class" conveys an impression of normalcy.
In that respect, no DUmpmonkey can ever be "middle class".

Okay let me see if I have the new categories right:

The uber-rich (who should pay more taxes)
The rich (who should pay more taxes)
The upper middle class (who should pay more taxes)
The middle class (who are now inching closer to the evil rich)
The lower middle class
The working class (who used to be middle class but have now moved down for some strange reason)
The working poor (not to be confused with working class or any variation of middle class)
The poor
All minorities (except Jews and Asians who score well on math tests and become engineers)

Our family is middle class, maybe "lower" middle class, but we are middle class.  We DO have to work to maintain that middle class level and hopefully (after Obama is gone) move up to a higher class.  We all have to work, DUmmie.  It's silly to say you're not middle class, but working class.  Everyone works, except for over half of you at DU who wait for people like us to work harder and make sure your government checks show up.

I beg to differ.

My husband & I both have to fill out time sheets.  You know, to ensure that EVVVILLLLL corporate company pays us our wages.  ::)

Anything to make themselves into victims :whatever:

I guess lawyers, doctors, accountants, hr, supervisors, etc don't work...they just show up at the pretty office building everyday to swim in the pool of money and  laugh while the 'workers' fill out their timesheets and slave away under the whip of the cash swimmers. :lmao:
