MM asks a question.
MM finds additional info that may help.
MM informs goNads of this info.

Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I'm pretty sure I could label a blank map of central and eastern Europe, as insignificant as those shithole countries are; I'm sure I could label a blank map of South America, and I could probably do 90% of Africa, but Honduras, Guatamala, and Nicaragua would be pure guesses. They just aren't that important, unless you work for Chiquita.

If Guatamala or one of the other banana countries were to invade Mexico and take it over, who would care? In the civilized world, no one.

She doesn't want even another primitive to appear to be more "intelligent" than herself. What an internet diva.

I think the 'we' she's talking about is the US. Go read it again, thunds, I know, it's difficult considering the source :-), but she's referring to the US being mobilized just in case. first time I read it thru I didn't get the same impression you did.

Let me decifer if she had included what should have been there, but it's obvious she's talking about the US being mobilized as a reserve in the event of war:

So I was looking for info on the Chupadero Massacre in May of 1984... Mexico and Guatemala came THIS CLOSE to an actual hot war. Yes we(TOO) were mobilized, all kinds of fun.

Yet. it's like it's gone away... there are a few things on the web...

http://books.google.com/b...Ykcb2UC&pg=PA193&...

Most are in spanish...

But if an event where two countries ALMOST went to war can be so throughly scrubbed.

Oh and how close did we come to war? The Mexican Army mobilized reserves... (that included us(the US)).. and moved units to the border.

The UN scrambled, both Soviet and American ambassadors called the kids to the office... and my hubby was in the navy and they scrambled out of port... oh the ways... and if you have no idea about this... trust me, you are not alone... I am betting that MOST Mexicans don't remember this either.

George Orwell was good.

Why was I looking for that? Memory sake... fiction... what have you . Oh and photos are gone.

I know, I know....but she's talking from the perspective of an American so it can be assumed the us and we she meant refers to Americans. this is one time I decided to read something of hers and ugh...never again to be honest...what a bore

So what, Nads?

I guess her vast wealth of knowledge never clued her in that those countries were in (even more of) a mess back in the 80's? I lived in Miami then as a teen and knew the families of many friends who had immigrated(legally I might add) to the US because of the issues in central American during that time and previous to it. It's no great mystery, but the little skirmishes here and there aren't really relevant to what's going on now. They have since been resolved and the 'bad guys' have changed. Mexico is now a shit hole of drug runners and they are right on our border. The obvious focus is and should be there.

 :lmao:

My goodness, this being my first nadin post, I admit my ignorance, but  :lmao:  A photo that was there 2 years ago and now is not and btw the magazine is now by subscription online. Gee, nadin, ya think in the 2 years since you looked they may have gone to subscription and you'd have to be a valid SUBSCRIBER to reach the same material you could readily find 2 years ago without one?  :lmao: :lmao: but instead it's this............... :panic: :panic: :panic: What an absolute moron and kudos to MM for politely pointing out her deficiencies :-)
