Show me ONE grocery store chain where the baggers are allowed to accept tips.  I can tell ya right now, Shaw's, Market Basket, and Hannaford's all have policies specifically prohibiting allowing accepting tips.

And a 60 minute class?  Hon, we have safety briefs at work that last longer.  DAILY.

I used to shop late so every time I would go the store there would only be one cashier with the personality of a dirty sock working with no bagger counting down the minutes until closing time. I always bagged my own stuff just to get out of there in a reasonable amount of time. I did it just as well as a "trained" bagger.

The son of one of our friends won the state grocery bagging tournament a few years ago.
I am serious, they have bagging competitions.
He went to the national championship, where he lost. They had some world-class baggers there.
I have no idea howt the competition is conducted, but it's high-level grocery bagging.

Yup, all kinds of contests for most any manual job one can think of and just foolish stuff, who on earth makes good money eating more hot dogs  then someone else. Lots of training involved and I usually put my money on that 90 pound Black Widow to take home the prize.

Lumber Jack contests, these are fun.
Cooking show contests Iron Chief started that fad.
Dog athletic contests that are awesome.
OLD Time feats of bodybuilding and weight lifting.
NY has a contest with bar maids that have to wear high heels and run down a street carrying a big tray with Martini glasses full of water. 

I myself are waiting for a pump off between different company's that work with septic tanks.
