Should i get checked out?

Recently i've had clumps of my hair come out and i'm starting to get grey on my sides. I don't know if its stress or just my hair is coming out at a early age, but should i be concerned?

1. What is your genetic disposition?

Has it happened at an early age to other members of your family?

You might want to read books that talk about the correlation between diet and premature aging.

2. Most of my grandfathers side

Have had hair up to the point they died. But my dads side, i don't know really. But i'm on a good diet so maybe premature aging.

3. Once you're sure, you might want to look at options, if it bothers you.

I know a friend had a huge bald spot in the back of his head, and then a year later, it was gone. I didn't ask him if he was using Rogaine, but I suspect he was using something.

I always thought that baldness followed the mother's side.

Then its ok if i go bald, i wear hats a lot anyway, but it bothers me that i'm 21 and its going already.

9. If you are 21 going grey and losing hair you should definitly get checked

One thing that will cause these symptoms is a copper deficiency. This can be caused by a lack in your diet but also by too much iron which binds the copper and makes it unusable. There is no way to know without some blood work.

Good luck on finding a doc who will do a proper job of checking you out. .

8. If you are on any medications check with your pharmacist for side effects. Warfarin is one I know causes hair loss, but at your age it would be an unlikely med for you to be on.

Naah, this isn't a problem. Lots of people have clumps of hair falling out at 21. People in radiation zones, that is.

I started going gray in my early, early 20s. By 40 I had more gray hair than my mother.

Thankfully it's still in my head. I know if clumps of it started falling out I wouldn't be asking DU about it. I'd be asking a doctor.
