Bob Turner Wins New York District 09 Special Election

QUEENS, N.Y. -- With more than half of precincts reporting, retired media executive and Republican Bob Turner beat New York State Assemblyman David Weprin in the special election to fill the congressional seat vacated by Anthony Weiner Tuesday in an upset capture of a solidly Democratic seat last in GOP hands in 1923. Results from 329 of 512 precincts in the 9th congressional district -- a largely white ethnic, middle- to upper-middle class community that spans parts of Queens and Brooklyn -- found Turner leading 53 percent to 47 percent over Weprin.

The 2012 GOP landslide is underway.
The fact that this is New York means that all the Democrat fraud failed to sway an election.

This victory is sweeter in that the candidates made this a referendum of the Obama agenda.

Now granted, turnout wasn't anywhere near what it will be in the General Election next year, so I harbor no illusions about holding the seat past then, much like Cao in LA, and Djou in Hawaii.

However, the fact that a district with a Cook PVI of D+5 goes to the GOP by 6 points is a MAJOR issue.

I think this area of NY is up for redistricting. This win guarantees this is the one Cuomo will eliminate.

Actually, NY loses two.  Because of the Republicans holding the NYS Senate, one (D) seat will be lost as well.  Weiner's seat was supposed to be up for being axed anyway, then an (R) seat, possibly my congressman's (Chris Gibson, NY-20).  Now, the Dems have to come up with another seat to get chopped.  (Bob Owens--NY-23?)
