I got a suggestion to the it was all hype (tm) crew

Edited on Mon Aug-29-11 01:24 PM by nadinbrzezinski
Since it was all hype... please next disaster use the on\off switch to OFF.

Please do get rid of your emergency radio. You know the one you should have in that emergency kit... in fact, get rid of the kit while you are at it. You really do not need it.

I mean if this is all hype... you really DO NOT need to get any info out of the media, so do your duty and turn it all OFF.

While you are at it... get yourselves JUST A WEATHER radio, local topo map of the area might be good too...

and perhaps follow this ONLY on FEMA.GOV or the local twitter feed for YOUR fire department.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES turn on the commercial TV... DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY RATINGS... ok.

That will guarantee you get no nooz. Oh and it goes without saying... no peeking at DU... you might get a smattering of the NYT, or the Charlotte Observer, et al.

All in sarcasm of course, but hey.

What is a local topo map? I don't speak nads.

Geeze she just doesn't get it.  Just because you think something is hype doesn't mean you are not going to be prepared.

These weather forecasters are doing everyone a huge injustice when they build something up to be more than it actually is.  The next time a storm comes along no one will believe them.  Every single year we hear "This is going to be the worst hurricane season on record with x number of named storms and x number of storms making land fall."

I've heard that every year.  We haven't had any activity since Ike rolled through here destroying Galveston but every single year "it's going to be bad!!!!"

New bullet point for it's resume.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Considering the fact that I grew up in a conservative town with a very conservative family, I sometimes wonder how I ever made it through life without the expertise and knowledge of liberals like Nadin.  From what I eat to how I live and raise children, liberals are the obvious experts on EVERYTHING and I guess I've been doing it wrong all along.

Now STFU Nadin.

Topography map.

First time I saw/heard it called a topo map was when I was in downtown Asheville one day and a small group of anarchists were protesting whatever it is they protest, and one of them was holding a sign that read "No war but class war.  No maps but topo maps."  I figured they abbreviated it just to make it fit on the poster.

1. They have been doing that for DECADES
reporter in storm in yellow slickers is as old as I remember...

Yes it is silly... and...

Some of us go... MOTHER NATURE... do your worst at him.

For the record yes, there is something sillier, reporter RUNNING AWAY from the rushing in water.

I take the silliness with the civil defense info though. And I laughed my ass off when local reporter went slipping and sliding... it was SHEER COMEDY.

Now the other is what a call a conter productive human interest story.

CNN was blowing this storm way out of proportion.  It's almost as if the reporters WANTED Irene to be another Katrina....

I sort of felt sorry for the TV talking heads who had hours set aside for what turned out to be just a pretty heavy summer thunderstorm. They had to keep talking to fill the time. Only a few, like Fox's little gayboy Shep, tried to make it sound serious.

Hurricane Irene's death toll climbs to 38; Vermont towns battle floods
MONTPELIER, Vt. — The full measure of Hurricane Irene's fury came into focus Monday as the death toll jumped to 38, New England towns battled epic floods and millions faced the dispiriting prospect of several days without electricity.

From North Carolina to Maine, communities cleaned up and took stock of the uneven and hard-to-predict costs of a storm that spared the nation's biggest city a nightmare scenario, only to deliver a historic wallop to towns well inland.

In New York City, where people had braced for a disaster-movie scene of water swirling around skyscrapers, the subways and buses were up and running again in time for the Monday morning commute. And to the surprise of many New Yorkers, things went pretty smoothly.

But in New England, landlocked Vermont contended with what its governor called the worst flooding in a century. Streams also raged out of control in upstate New York.

I am sorry for more hype (tm)

Nope, she still hasn't found her new apocalypse of the week.

You may remember in January, 2000, reading about some ATMs that wouldn't work in Australia.

It was cited over and over by Y2K nadins as proof we had narrowly avoided Armageddon.

And in some perverted way to still blame President Bush.
