Any hurricane experts out there?

It seems to me that the physics of a hurricane might be similar to an ice skater in a spin. The smaller and denser the storm (arms tucked in) the faster the spin and wind speed. I've noticed that many storms reach Cat 4 only to get larger and drop in intensity. It's not unusual to see them drop two categories as they get larger. If this is so, why wouldn't forecasters calculate that as a storm gets larger it will lose intensity ... or do they?

1. Not an expert, but remember that an ice skater is out on the ice alone with no other skaters...hurricanes are constantly being acted upon by other atmospheric disturbances/fronts/water temps/barometric pressure, etc.

The above's the whole campfire.  No nadin.

Now that Hurricane Irene has finished battering the East Coast with its deadly 35 mph wind, nadin has moved on. She's casting around now for the next apocalypse. I'm sure by this time next week we'll know what it is.

The principal factors with devolution of a hurricane are the topography or hydrography in its path, the temp under it, and jet stream set-up.  This is so far over Nadin's head that she wouldn't know what to start Googling for to construct a post on it.

Nadin got spanked pretty hard for her expertise...Maybe she will pout for a few days.

or maybe the hurricane winds raging at only 35 miles per hour has Little Miss Know-it-all feeling under appreciated.

Did anybody else notice Nadin getting smacked for saying that hurricanes are called cyclones in the Pacific.  I forgot to bting that and a Dummie correcting her that they are called typhoons.

Moonbats like nutcase nadin and the leftist press desperately wanted this hurricane to be a catastrophe to help the jug-eared Kenyan, and to give them a soapbox for their global warming bullshit. Of course it turned out to be a bigger disappointment than Halley's Comet.

Now, I'm reminded strongly of how the disastermongers scoured the world during the first week of January, 2000. They searched high and low for an ATM that was out of order, or a security system that wouldn't work, or a business that missed deliveries due to the Y2K apocalypse. Every tiny oddball situation was hyped to high heaven as proof that Y2K was a digital Armageddon, and not an overhyped non-event that cost gullible businesses untold millions of dollars for bogus "remediation".

Tonight they're looking for a damaged boat, a stranded child, or hopefully a few fatal accidents. I've seen the same blown down tree in Providence in at least three different reports. It's kind of pathetic.

The HNC is as good at predicting hurricanes as AlGore is at globulll warming.

Actually, I found it disgusting.

My wife stayed glued to the TV (watching CNN/ blech) for all the "updates". I kept telling her "The east coast deals with these things all the time. While the flooding is bad, they know how to get through it. I don't need the 24/7 disaster fest".

Or not.  It looks like she is trying to salvage something or other from her earlier pronouncements.

Hey turn for some GUVMENT HYPE (tm) on msnbc
they are going to have the Governor of the barely touched  state of Vermont... to tell us that they were not touched on whatsoever.

Every stranded kitty is evidence of the apocalyptic damage of this monster killer storm. Pathetic.
Y2K messed up my alarm clock, too.

All this means is that nutcase nadin is still searching for this week's apocalypse. As soon as she finds it,
it will be like this hurricane never happened.

When did she last mention the earth-shattering revolution in Tunisia? Or Egypt? Or the fragmentation of America because of moonbats in the Wisconsin rotunda? Or the mass suicides of TEPCO executives? Or the showers of isotopes falling on America from "Fiuki"?

When nadin settles on today's Armageddon, all the previous Armageddons are forgotten.

Breaking news on CNN the other night on Piers Morgan was:  CELL PHONE HANGS UP

For the record, I don't watch CNN at home.  They had it on at work all day during my 12 hour shift that day.  Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan, including their guests, were pretending to be meteorologists.

Alright --

I'm feeling a bit pissy because of infighting I'm currently dealing with on an entirely nonpolitical message board I run, So I'm going to take it out on Nads...

{rant}

Listen, Nadin..
I have lived with hurricanes, and "nor'easters" my entire life, here on the south coast of Massachusetts. All it will take me is about a mile or so walk in the right direction to end up in the Atlantic., And you know what -- crap happens -- and you learn to adapt, and move on. In a thread here that referenced Irene long before it made landfall my opinion of the storm was 'meh' and that I expected it to get tangled in the Appalachians and quickly disorganized because it had grown too large.

And that is exactly what it did.

Did it end up in Vermont ? Yes. Crap Happens. They lost trees, utilities and historic structures. Again, crap happens. However, one thing you aren't going to find are masses of bloated corpses hanging from trees, and lines of starving, diseased victims waiting for their turn to die - and when blessed death comes, to be unceremoniously dumped into a mass grave with a bucketful of lime.

I'm no meteorologist, miracle worker, sooth sayer, mind reader, storm whisperer, or fictional spirit guide. What I am is experienced in these things, what they look like, and how they behave.

And this is your problem.

You shoot your mouth off at every given opportunity, with dire 'The End is Nigh' predictions to be only proven wrong again and again. You seem to bee looking for-- no -- Praying for some sort of end times scenario, where the plebeians and proletariats will come to love you for your sage council, timely warnings, and sound advice. Sorry to inform you, but it's not going to happen. Ever.

You are a self righteous twit who makes herself more and more of a fool every time you open your mouth. We laugh at you, DU laughs at you...

Life laughs at you.

Go back to writing fictional role-playing guides and manuals. Because when one designs their own reality, one can never be wrong. Because Nadin - in this reality, you almost always are.

Super H5 for telling Nads what she needs to hear.  Unfortunately, it fell on deaf ears; even if she lurked the thread.  Remember: “Ignorance is innocence - stupidity comes with experience”  And Nads is certainly the voice of experience.
