Hugo Chavez Doubles Down on Dictatorship....

from the Al-Jazeera liveblog:

Quote
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday he will only recognize a Libyan government led by his friend and ally Muammar Gaddafi and accused the United States of inciting the country's civil war.

Chavez accused Western powers of riding roughshod over international laws by supporting opposition fighters in their revolt against Gaddafi.

"This is kicking, spitting ... on the most basic elements of international law," he said. "Where are the international rights? This is like the caveman era."

Venezuela's socialist leader spoke after fighters overran Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli in what appeared to be the end of his 42-year rule.

Of course, maybe he's just trying to avoid a very annoying house guest who never leaves...

2. I think the Venezuelan people need to have a little revolution of their own.

Someone who tramples on human rights in the name of "socialism"(really more like a nepotistic democracy) should be shown the door.

To the Hague.

3. They did have one and they voted IN Hugo Chavez
It's the spoiled Inheritance babies of Venezuela that despise Hugo Chavez and want to keep the masses in poverty.

5. What's better?

Economic prosperity and the demise of human rights, or the reverse?

Venezuela is damned if they do, damned if they don't. Chavez seems content to trample on people's liberties.

The Nadin of Venezuela then has to jump into the thread:

7. oy.

He needs to keep his mouth shut. Is he off his meds or is he just that plain crazy? I support a lot of what he's done, but sometimes you just need to know when to shut up.

12. Actually, ceile, we need more leaders to speak up when private interests
decide to take control of popular revolts using international bodies, not fewer of them.

10. Hate to say it but Chavez is right. The US used Nato for a cover in another oil war.

Chavez probably thinks, quite rationally, that Venezuela will
be next. Start and uprising, get Chavez to shoot a few people
and Bob's your uncle. That seems to be the standard plan for
removing non Muslim regimes the US doesn't like. The did it
in Iran in 1952 and they have been doing it ever since.

Chile, Panama, and the list goes on. Cuba was a failure which
has goaded the right wingers ever since.

I think there will be a coup in Venezuela but after Chavez and
Obama are gone.

Venezuela's Chavez says Gaddafi still Libya's leader

(Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday he will only recognize a Libyan government led by his friend and ally Muammar Gaddafi and accused the United States of inciting the country's civil war.

Chavez, who has been the most vocal world leader to support Gaddafi, accused Western powers of riding roughshod over international law by backing Libya's rebels in their revolt.

"This is kicking, spitting ... on the most basic elements of international law," he said. "Where are the international rights? This is like the caveman era."

Venezuela's socialist leader spoke after rebels overran Gaddafi's compound in Tripoli in what appeared to be the end of his 42-year rule.

During six months of civil war more than 30 countries, including the United States and major European Union countries, have moved to recognize the rebel National Transitional Council as the governing authority in Libya.

"Now (President Barack) Obama said he will collaborate economically with the new government, which of course we do not recognize," Chavez said.

1. He also decrees that it was someone else who farted, based on the international law of
You Smelt It, You Dealt It.

Seriously - who cares what Chavez thinks? If he's so gung ho about propping up MK, let him send troops.

Then again, Chavez does not have a reputation for intellectual brilliancy.
