A lot of it was actually silver plate so it is not worth much for its silver content but may be worth more for its sentimental value. I remember back during the age of malaise, when the Hunt brothers put a move on silver, watching a couple sweet old granny types selling off a silver tea service. The buyer asked them "are you sure you want to do this"? they nodded yes, he then took a mallet and bashed it to knock out the plaster of Paris base and weighed it to audible sobs from the two old dears. They thought it was going to be worth a fortune but barley bought a couple extra bags of Friskies.
And a question for you: What was the marking on the cheap Japanese toys produced just after the war? It became synonymous with junk ( I am thinking mostly the white metal crap that use to break after a few days of use).
I do know that the Japanese stuff made before the war is valuable, I bought a full 12 place serving of dinner ware for $5.00 at a yard sale in the early 1970 and my Mother went nuts of the value. She confiscated it and is holding it for me as part of her estate.
Toys, well I do know that some of the metal toy shoulders made after the WW1 are valuable, also metal coin banks.--------
Dolls with heads arms and legs of ceramics in any condition are pricey. First time Barbie Dolls and 1950 Mickey Mouse clocks or coin banks.
Today most anything Asian is out of sight for value-------Mother has a few bone flee catchers that are Asian, the people wore them in their clothing back in the 1800------She took them to the Peabody Museum to figure out what these things were. She was hounded for months to donate them-----sorry, into a safety deposit box.
Yankees who had ancestors sail the seas have trunks of STUFF in cellars and attics that are just there until old time property has to be sold, some of this stuff is so old no one knows what the hell it is, if you find something odd, buy it and research it, never know when buying some old picture in a frame will have a valuable painting behind it.
The Hunt family destroyed silver in one fell swoop, I remember the bastards and they managed to take down half their family in that mess.
