Republicans and Magic Thinking

Republicans wouldn't be playing chicken with the economy if they didn't beleive that somehow America is going to come out of this all right. In other contexts this is called magic thinking, i.e., the belief that some benevolent force will intervene. It might be divine intervention, a fairy godmother, natural good fortune . . . but whatever it is, it will preserve America from the easily foreseeable consequences of reckless behavior. Bring it on!

I don't know what we're going to do to get Americans out of this dream state. We expect children to fantasize about fairy tale endings, but not grown-ups. President Obama made a reference to his own children, noting that they do their homework before it's due, they don't wait until the last possible minute. By contrast, Congressional Republicans seem confident that nothing serious will happen if they don't negotiate in good faith. These people are deluded.

Wanna talk about magical thinking? How about the theory that we can spend our way into prosperity?

that they must be slowing the recovery because what the Obama admin. has done is working. They can't have that.

OMG 0bama is drowning, the GOP has a boat he can get on, he refuses so they claim that the GOP is drowning him.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Magic thinking is that you can pour water into a hole and it becomes a well.
Have not had one DUmmy yet explain how this works with government pork spending and angry dragon and Allentown jackoff both admitted it can`t when pressed for an answer.

I just did an advanced Google search on "Sasha" and "Malia" on the site democraticunderground.com with the stipulation that results must include the word "props" and happened within the last month.  Guess what?  That's right, the search produced no results.  The way these DUmmie hypocrites went on and on about the Palin kids being props simply for being with their mother during the campaign and now silence when Sir Golfsalot uses his kids as genuine political props.  While SoDesuKa made only a passing reference to Obama's use of his children as props, the rest of the magic talk was nonsensical babble that I'm unable to decipher or comment about.

I read the title and read no further.

I'm not so sure that you should be making fun of others' so-called "Magic Thinking" if you are a member of a site that believes in (or believes that):

sending white light
spirit guides
ghost chickens
astral travel
remote viewing via organic pineapple
time control
smudging
hurricane machines
Global Warming
0 is presidential
Chevez was elected in a fair election
Cuba has an excellent medical system
chemtrails
islamic terrorists didn't commit 9-11
gun control will cause criminals to stop using guns

The next thing is that you'll be telling me that it's wrong to execute evil men but right to execute babies. Oh...wait...
Fictional spirit-guiding by appointment.

For new members and lurkers: I am a fictional spirit-guide with no smell whatsoever. I am part irish setter and part pigeon. If you don't smell any strange smells it means I'm probably standing next to you. As I am a fictional character anything I post should possibly be considered fictional.

You're gonna get a ton of amendments to that list. For example:

Healing vibes
Medical marijuana
Blue dogs lost because they aren't progressive enough
The First Wookie is attractive
Americans want socialized medicine
Unbalanced chakras
Feng shui
...

The First Wookie is attractive

If they'd merely tried to say that Michelle is attractive and let it go at that, I would've let that slide.  But when they said that Michelle puts Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni to shame, that's just laughable.

The primitives lost me a long time ago, when they claimed that the wretched old bitches the late Molly Ivins and the late Ann Richards were "nice" people.

I don't think that Michelle is ugly. Personally.. I think she is not a bad looking lady from a purely physical aspect. Now do I think she is beautiful and hot? Nope. Would I go out with her if she wasn't married? Probably. Would there be a second date? Probably not. Is she better looking than Carla Bruni? Not in my opinion.

She's a damn sight better looking than Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi though. Hell my dog is better looking than those two hags.  :-)

Republicans and Magic Thinking

I think the best example of magical thinking on the scene today is the Keynesian economic theories on which the O-ministration claims to operate.  In essence it is exactly like a cargo cult shaman asking for money from his mark, swirling it around in a washpan, and then after sufficient ritualistic BS making it appear by sleight-of-hand as if the Cargo Gods had made more money than was put in the pan originally.
