Daily Kos: Pro-Labor Progressives Should Support The AT&T - T-Mobile Merger

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/06/24/988288/-Pro-La...

By Nathan Newman

Why should progressives care about the proposed merger of AT&T with T-Mobile? Because AT&T is the ONLY unionized wireless company in the country and the merger would ensure that 20,000+ T-Mobile workers would have the chance to join the 43,000 currently unionized AT&T Mobility employees with decent wages and legal protections on the job.

There are a range of other likely benefits from the merger, from a projected deployment of high-speed broadband to over 97% of the population and better service for existing AT&T and T-Mobile customers from more efficient integration of available spectrum from both companies. But stepping away from the impact on consumers, which is being endlessly debated, progressives should be focusing as well on the massive gain for workers rights from the merger.

So maybe it's the union protected employees that screwed up AT&T in the 1st place. And what's up with KOS supporting this?

3. I dumped AT&T for T-Mobile years ago because their service

was terrible. I sure hope it's not a reflection of their unionized workforce VS T-Mobiles. I'm not happy about this merger.

Careful noob, close to blasphemy there.

4. Job loss from mergers is never a reason to celebrate

Not much support for the Unions yet, Obama Steve.

I wonder if he'll take his ball and go home again, for a few hours at least.

Stupid Steve wouldn't tote AT&T if he knew the "progressive" mobile phone outfit know as CREDO, has them blacklisted.
Check it out, stupid steve.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Personally, I would rather have a phone company dedicated to being a phone company and not a cause.
Capitalism is based on self-interest and self-esteem; it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues and makes them pay off in the marketplace, thus demanding that men survive by means of virtue, not vices. It is this superlatively moral system that the welfare statists propose to improve upon by means of preventative law, snooping bureaucrats, and the chronic goad of fear.

F*** AT&T.

If that merger goes through, we are dumping our T-Mobile phones immediately.  I've had AT&T in the past.  The service (customer service, that is) was TERRIBLE.  Dropped calls like you wouldn't believe.  And outrageous prices compared to their competitors.

Dumped AT&T years ago.
Thought the service was bad.
Nothing more.

I've had AT&T for years with no complaint. As far as dropped calls, I thought that depended on where you are vs. tower locations. If there's a merger, AT&T and T-Mobile should both improve if they combine their relay towers. I've never really studied a rate comparison, but whenever I see rates advertised by Sprint, Verizon, or T-Mobile, they look identical to what I pay. I've only spoken to their customer service a couple of times, and my problems have been handled smoothly.

But every time I read about AT&T, it's from outraged, unhappy customers, so I must really be in the minority.
Nothing new about that. Hell, I think Windows Vista is a good operating system!

I like Windows Vista.

I just had a really bad experience with AT&T.  They were overcharging my account and it took me fighting them tooth and nail to get them to fix THEIR mistake.  It took months.  I had enough, canceled my contract half way in and went to another carrier.  There is no way in hell I'd gamble with their service again.
