IKEA desk 70% complete
« on: April 19, 2008, 01:34:34 PM »
Turns out I'm way more handy than I thought. Which equates to, in all honesty, somewhat handy. (maybe even average!)

 :cheersmate:

I "should" finish the thing today. However, it is for all intents and purposes a functioning right now. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the damn think came in a thousand of pieces. (though I think I can complete this task using hundreds, lol. sigh)

What I got done.

"When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion - when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you - when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - you may know that your society is doomed."

Just don't lose that darned allen wrench. :-)

When you're done, you can start on this -

I can see November 2 from my house!!!

Spread my work ethic, not my wealth.

Forget change, bring back common sense.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'm impressed by your manlyness!   :-)

Fair warning:  Under no circumstances should you ever have the bright idea that this type project should be an endeavor.  That also includes "friends" (no true friend would ever ask!) who lure you with beer to help in the construction of one.

Congrats Rearden.  I have a bookshelf, tv stand and a night stand from Ikea.  The night stand was the most complicated thing I had to put together.

Those little allen wrenches suck.  I got out my real one to use.  :)

Aside from the red paint, it kinda reminds me of a "1911A1 Kit" I got from Numrich Arms years ago...

How the heck do you see anything on that symmetrical 17" monitor?!?!?  Dude, little 21" wide screen LCD monitors aren't THAT expensive.  I would buy a new monitor before popping for a $90 IKEA desk.  :D

Interestingly, that looks identical to the final result of the last desk I tried to assemble.
