Rasmussen: Romney 33%, Bachmann 19%
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:50:01 PM »
After Monday’s debate, the consensus choices for big winners were Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann.  Rasmussen polled 1,000 likely GOP voters the next day and confirmed the observation.  Romney leads in their latest survey, but Bachmann gets the eye-popping numbers:

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney continues to lead the race for the Republican nomination, but Michele Bachmann has surged into second place following her Monday night entry into the campaign.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters, taken following the candidates’ Monday night debate, shows Romney earning 33% support, with Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann a surprise second at 19%. Georgia businessman Herman Cain is in third place with 10% of the vote.

Well, well.

Well, well, well.

Just as I thought it would happen, it's starting to happen.

Only a few months--hey, maybe as recently as only a few weeks ago--the field of possible Republican candidates was considered dull and drab.

But now that things are evolving, it's not so dull and drab any more.

And sooner or later it's going to sparkle, dazzle.

It's all good.

I have no personal preferences--any (R) candidate, no matter who it is, has my vote in November 2012--but right now, I'm thinking Herman Cain is sterling.

I like Michelle Bachmann--Hell, I like them all--and she's coming up.

It's all good.

Did anyone actually watch the debate?  I glanced at Michael Barone's review/coverage of it but couldn't force myself to read the damn thing.

It's too early for this shit.

Sorry, I'm just tired.  Carry on.

Right; it's way too early.

I'd like to see both John Boehner and Marcia Blackburn get into it, to see what happens.

For those who have announced, Cain and Bachmann are the two I'll support.  If DeMint jumps in, he'll be my favorite.  If Perry jumps in, he'll be my least favorite, tied with Romney.

Well, yeah, there's the "least favorites".

I guess Mitt Romney is mine, but at the same time, I'm considerably less dissatisfied with Romney as most seem to be.

Romney's changed his mind about too many things to be trusted. And the fact that he believes in the global warming hoax means there will still be regulation (probably more regulation) aimed at saving the planet and discouraging growth. That's what happens when you have corporations taking government handouts for "green energy" projects. Crony capitalism is killing this country. Romney's too connected to that political segment. He won't be saved by making Bachmann his VP (regardless of the signals being sent). All you'd have is two pretty people selling their souls for political ambition. Of the ones in now my preference would be Cain. I doubt he's got a chance but he's better than all the above.

I truly wish Bachmann had remained (and kept her campaign) more in line with her values and style instead of throwing her lot in with the establishment. She would've been first on my list because she's the one most like Sarah Palin. Or was anyway.

But as they say in the stockbrokerage business, "past performance is no predictor of future performance."

Remember, it was Ronald Reagan who had signed the bill legalizing infanticide in California, as governor of that state.

Politicians wiffle-and-waffle all the time; it's part of the game.

So I don't really judge candidates by past performance, or by ideology.

My only criteria is, how much character, how much principle (omitting in politics), how much integrity, a candidate has.

In 2000, my first choice was Richard Cheney, in 2008, Duncan Hunter, simply because of the sterlingness of their character, principle, and integrity (I had, much to my great happiness, underestimated that of George Bush, surely the most principled president in my entire life).

As the current (R) candidates and potential (R) candidates strike me, none of them scores less than an A- in personal character and integrity.

The only think polls translate to this early is campaign contributions.

The party just started.

And the party's going to get better.

I think it's going to be awesome, something like 1980 had been.
