I could use a little input here
« on: June 20, 2011, 12:09:30 AM »
My sister is married to a liberal, (he states he is not) she is a conservative and always has been.

At the moment he is trying to debate with me, (which I will not do, due to "peace in the family' and although he states he is a "conservative", he does everything besides having a shrine resurrected to Obama which ensures me he is  out of touch with his own identity.

I guess what I'm asking for is a good way to  reveal information which I do believe he is incorrect without him feeling that I want to be right.  I don't need to be right.  I just want facts.  His facts are right according to factcheck.org, but not against the government statistics that can be found right online.

Obama has not caused significant debt as compared to our prior presidents?   He has even gone as far to tell me that he has done an incredible job on recovering our economy, but yet our unemployment rate is soaring.  Our housing market is at it's lowest, and we all know this is factual....we live it everyday...Any suggestions, or should I just bite my lip.

I always chuckled and felt uncomfortable when I heard people say Liberalism is a mental disorder, but if it walks like a duck talks like a duck and acts like moron it is a moron.

Just me - I'd bite my lip.

Family is more important than petty partisan politics.

Hell, if he's that DUmb, keep your mouth shut and just pray for your sister.

My half-sister and her whole family are very liberal, almost 180 degrees from me and mine.

It's a bigger issue for her than it is for me.

Sometimes it's just better to keep quiet - particularly when it's family.

Political fights with family just never, ever seem worth it.  Nobody comes out a winner, nobody is ever converted, and it gives everyone indigestion, headaches, and misery.  Anybody whose ever changed their mind, did that on his own.

Discussing politics with like-minded family members is more fun.  The opposite-minded people?  Just talk about anything else.

Thanks all so very much.  Today he's trying to trap me lol...I just roll my eyes and say..."Aww, c'mon, you know I'll just kick your liberal arse around the corner"...we both laughed and left it at that...so thank goodness that's over.

Yep, it's not worth it. If you wrestle with a pig, you'll only get dirty and the pig will like it. Not saying he's a pig but you get the meaning.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

Welcome, FC, and allow me to concur with most of the comments already stated.

Mrs E is a social liberal (which is to say she's very comfortable with the government telling her what to do) and with very certain and predictable exceptions practiced very rarely, we simply do not discuss politics.

Factcheck.org, by the way, is notorious for its liberal slant. It is not a credible source of information.

Aw. I miss home.  (sniffle)  A visit back home would make me as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine.

Now, that's very interesting.  I'm glad you mentioned that about your wife and also about factcheck.org...I truly had my own suspicions about them, but never thought to inquire...thanks again to you and everyone (:
