This whole Weiner thing is very upsetting. I will say, whether she chose to not stand by him as he delivered this apology, or whether he had the courtesy to not request that she does, i liked it.
I always hate when the wife has to stand by her man, in what must be so humiliating for her.
I hope he has not jeopardized her career.

I cannot imagine why anyone would give that advice. In every case where the long-suffering wife has stood by while her husband publically confesses that she isn't good enough for him, it has destroyed the political career of the husband.

That's another thing that bothers me: the presumption of a particular structure of sexual relationship as "appropriate" for our public figures.
We're in the process of normalizing Gay marriage. And that is a great thing. An AWESOME thing, really, although it's happening far too slowly. But it's still a very narrow window of relationship types that we're approving. Imagine public figures who are avowed swingers. Or have an open marriage, or a stable polyamorous relationship.
Just once I'd love to see a politician and his wife admit that they can get freaky at times, and tell the prudish media to go pound sand.

had an open marriage for 16 years or so:
press found out about it, and he said it wasn't going to stop...so they lost interest.
After which he never again held public office.

they said this when spitzer resigned. however for many reasons, he sadly did not get to run again
Governor Paterson thought it was his wife. He had a built-in excuse.
