Free Cell Phones and Air Time for Low Income
« on: May 27, 2011, 06:00:19 AM »
Others may already know about this Obamma Phone, but I only discovered it this morning. https://www.safelinkwireless.com/Safelink/home

A person who is already on federal or state assistance can get a free phone and 70 minutes of free air time a month for all those 70 minute emergencies. They deny that this is an Obamma Phone and place the blame for it on Reagan citing Lifeline.

Combine this with Janices' thread in Economics and my morning hasn't started out well.  Add that to a doctor's appointment I have later that *I* must drive *my* car to, pay for the gas out of *my* pocket, ensure the insurance is paid with *my* money, pay the doctor's copay and any coinsurance out of *my* checking account and will be traveling with a cell phone that's acting hinky (we don't have landline any longer), but am putting off getting another due to cost because *I* pay the bill.  And I'm supposed to get a warm fuzzy feeling paying for cell phones for the welfare state?

The grocery store I shop at has a sign hanging up by the check out that said you can get one if you are on welfare, SSI, etc.

Pisses me off.

As an aside... not that these welfare parasites need one cause they always seem to have one and be talking on it at the checkout while giving the cashier 3 or 4 different welfare debit cards trying to find one that still has money on it.

I haven't kept up on what is offered here in WY.  Used to be you could donate you old phone with a charger and it would be given to a low-income person or family to use for 911 calls.  I was told that as long as the phone was charged, it could be used for 911 without being on any calling plan.  I didn't have a problem with that.

But, I don't want to be paying for cell bills, for goodness sake.

What drives me ****in* batshit crazy is they actually advertise safelink of the ****in* radio in CT! If politicians paid taxes they would understand that it is not free money to spend on whatever they want.
