You realize, of course, that in the eyes of the rest of the world, if we used nukes to settle every affront then every other nation will assume that will be our first and only response.
That means anything that has even the slightest chance to gain the ire of the US should be preempted by a strategic surprise attack on the US.
We aren't the only ones with nukes and those who have them should feel confident the US will act reasonably and with great deliberation. Its the fact that Iran is run by apocalyptic nut jobs that we fear their joining the nuclear club, as opposed to Israel who acts with the moderation expected of a civilized society.
And while I'm in favor of a draft in times of dire need the idea of compulsory service simply for the fact of having been born in the US strikes me as 1) logistically ridiculous 2) poor for the morale of the professionals 3) a drain on readiness 4) unconstitutional and 5) un-American
Pity this wasn't a set-up.
