False abuse claim investigated in Texas polygamist raid

Officials say the Texas Rangers are pursuing Rozita Swinton of Colorado as a “person of interest” regarding telephone calls related to the polygamist compound in Eldorado, Texas.

Colorado Springs police confirmed that on Wednesday they arrested Swinton, 33, at her home.

"This arrest stemmed from an incident that occurred in Colorado Springs in February of this year," according to a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Swinton was transferred to the El Paso Criminal Justice Center in El Paso County, Colorado.

The investigation of Swinton is being headed by the Rangers and was disclosed by the Texas Department of Public Safety Friday just after 6 p.m.

Texas Child Protective Services says it launched a raid on the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints compound earlier in April after receiving an alleged anonymous tip from a 16-year-old girl named "Sarah" who said she was being abused by her 49-year-old husband.

"Two Texas Rangers traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 16 and met with officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department to discuss a possible connection between Swinton and telephone calls made regarding activities at the polygamist Yearning For Zion (YFZ) Ranch of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) in Eldorado, Texas," according to the DPS news release issued late Friday.

"Texas Rangers accompanied the Colorado Springs officers while they executed an evidentiary search warrant at Swinton’s residence for items related to previous false reports to authorities in Colorado. During the search, officers found several items that indicated a possible connection between Swinton and calls regarding the FLDS compounds in Colorado City, Arizona, and Eldorado, Texas."

this thing gets stranger by the minute.  were they sexually abusing kids or not?  this shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

I don't think they were and now everyones trying to cover their asses. Another plot complication:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/04/18/polygamy.custody/index.html
"Earlier in the day, a defense witness testified that it is uncommon for a polygamist sect to force girls as young as 13 into marriage, as the state alleged.
Religious scholar John Walsh also addressed a particularly damning piece of evidence: At least one bed found inside a temple that was allegedly used to consummate such marriages immediately after the ceremony.
Historically, the only use of a bed in a temple is for temple worship itself, said Walsh, who said he has studied the FLDS practices for 18 years. "The worship lasts a couple of hours, so all the temples will have a place where someone can lie down." But, he said, "To my knowledge, there has never been any sexual activity in a Mormon temple."
It's not a Mormon Temple. And as the article states, the beds weren't used for sexual activity. I'll bet the girl who was arrested in Colorado works for the ACLU or Family Protective Services and has an axe to grind against religion.
If the Sect was so bad then we should be hearing firsthand accounts from the victims themselves right?
Here's something that catches my eye:
Quote
Also testifying Friday was child psychiatrist and state witness Bruce Perry, who said FLDS children are taught that disobeying orders leads to eternal damnation and have little opportunity to learn how to make independent choices. Young children are not mature enough to enter into a sexual relationship or a marriage, he added.
Oh really? Then that's at odds with all the liberals who say that the young uns' should be given condoms right? We can't stop their sexual behavior, why is the state trying to? Am I just confused here?

Sounds to me like a whole lot of people and organizations overreacted to a false abuse report. And if it does turn out be a false report, I hope all offending parties get sued. That includes the Texas Rangers.

well, there you go.  that is part of the failed washington "politics as usual" that I am trying to fix.  nothing
ever gets done that way, and that is why people are so disappointed and bitter.  and it's also why my pastor
hates white people, and why babies are disposable, and why God is an obstruction to my utopian agenda to
change the universe.
