WASHINGTON -- Three days before the Nov. 2 election, U.S. Rep. David Wu’s most loyal and senior staffers were so alarmed by his erratic behavior that they demanded he enter a hospital for psychiatric treatment.

Their concern had been spiking for weeks in tandem with the Oregon Democrat's increasingly unpredictable performance on the campaign trail and in private. He was loud and sometimes angry, some of them told The Oregonian. He said kooky things to staff and -- more worrisome with a tough election fast approaching -- around potential voters and donors.

Most of all, they were worried for Wu, a 55-year-old single father of two children.

Earlier and gentler efforts had failed, so the tight-knit group of high-level staff took other steps, including quiet inquiries about the availability of beds in hospitals in Portland and Washington, D.C., multiple sources familiar with the effort told The Oregonian.

Several staff members confronted Wu for the final time on Oct. 30. Wu’s psychiatrist was brought into that meeting as well, joining the group at the Portland campaign headquarters by speaker phone. The meeting was held after four consecutive days of troubling behavior that led the staff to agree that Wu needed a higher level of medical care, according to people intimately familiar with the events of that period. ...

Portland, meh, I'm sure the only thing that would've mattered to his constituents at that point was if he'd decided to change parties.

This man needs a more then complete physcal, every test known to science.

Quick story, Hubby's mother died and left his father with 7 kids and a few grandchildren.   About a month after her death the father began to act really weird, everyone put it down to heart break over loosing his wife.

He began to complain of sever headaches and was acting so erratic he went to 3 different hospital emergency rooms and sent home.  another 6 weeks went by and he was definitely getting much worse going into rages and not able to Handel his bowells.

The story was he was so heart sick over his wife's death that he was going insane.  Finally after he destroyed the ER. at a hospital they sent him to a mental hospital.   On admittance the hospital did a full blood work on the father to find he had Meningitis that untreated for 12 weeks caused his death.

7 kids lost both parents in a 12 week period  due to negligence of the hospitals not to run a simple blood test on the father.

This David WU may in fact have some kind of problem, be it paracites in the brain to infection that is slow growing.

My heart and sympathy goes out to him and his family, this is a tragedy.

I bet he and John Kerry in his bunny suit would have gotten along famously.

Despite recent news reports of bizarre behavior and calls for his resignation, Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.) has filed for reelection.

Wu filed a statement of organization with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday to be able to run for his seat in 2012.

Two major Oregon newspapers and Oregon Republicans have been calling for Wu's resignation after revelations, originally reported by The Oregonian, that Wu had been exhibiting strange behavior, including
dressing in a tiger costume and sending emails to his staff in the voice of one of his daughters.
