The U.S. informed Arab governments Tuesday that it will support a U.N. Security Council statement reaffirming that the 15-nation body "does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity," a move aimed at avoiding the prospect of having to veto a stronger Palestinian resolution calling the settlements illegal.

But the Palestinian's rejected the American offer following a meeting late Wednesdy of Arab representativs and said it is planning to press for a vote on its resolution Friday, according officials familar with the issue.  The decision to reject the American offer raised the prospects that the Obama adminstration may cast its first ever veto in the U.N. Security Council.

Still, the U.S. offer signaled a renewed willingness to seek a way out of the current impasse, even if it requires  breaking with its key ally and joining others in the council in sending a strong message to Israel to stop its construction of new settlements. The Palestinian delegation, along with the council's Arab member Lebanon, have asked the council's president this evening to schedule a meeting on Friday. But it remained unclear whether the Palestinian move today is simply a negotiating tactic aimed at extracting a better deal from the United States.

This is not surprising. Obama made it a point that Israel should bow to his demands and stop construction. Israel did stop, briefly, which must have really pissed ObetWon off.

I know I sound like a broken record, but where are the Republicans when it comes to this? where are they when it comes to Obama screwing our allies?

They can't do anything but complain, but they should be screaming about abandoning Israel.

It's a sad state of affairs to know that any one of us here could go up to DC, kick the tires and light the fires (figuratively) and do more.  Maybe cuz we have less to lose but most likely cuz we're not a bunch of policial hacks more interested in smoozing and buttkissing.
The libs have the same problem with THEIR politicians though, never doubt that!  Unfortunately the worst lib of all is steering our ship of State straight for the economic, political and strategic equivalent of Niagara Falls. :fuelfire:

I wonder too. The GOP (with the exception of maybe Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan) is usually a big Israel supporter.

Boud love, sometimes something makes me so furious I can't take it anymore and just have to let loose with a curse, and a foul one. I hate this stinking dictator for that, too: making me lose my self-possession so completely that I feel such a strong need upon me to speak or write as I don't ordinarily.

Even then, I substituted "slit" for another word.

One constant in US relations up until this imposter in the WH (I don't believe he was born in the USA so that makes me a retarded birther :whatever: :bird:) was our special relationships with Israel and Great Britain.  Now we've got a man child in office with a HUGE chip on his shoulder towards both-one cuz his daddy hated the Brits and two cuz his religious groundings in childhood as a Muslim are still with him, if they ever departed.
I only hope he is gone in two years, defeated by election, I should say before someone from the lib community twists my words, and that the new president can repair the damaged relations between our countries.

I do understand the rationale in the release, and I have to say that it does make sense as long as you have no core principles, there are no lines you won't cross, and you want to treat your allies as only slightly less dispensible than a used Kleenex.  It therefore makes perfect sense that a Democrat administration would take this position.

Maybe there really is something to the prophesies which say Israel will be turned on by her allies and attacked from all sides.

Anything that appeases the throwbacks, the imposter in the White House will be all for it.
