Reagan Secret Service Agent Shoots Self in Hip
 Source: KTLA

CAMARILLO (KTLA) -- One of Nancy Reagan's Secret Service agents accidentally shot himself in the hip on the eve of a weekend filled with celebrations for the anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth.

The shooting occurred around 10 a.m. Friday morning at the Ventura County Sheriff's Department shooting range in Camarillo. According to sheriffs, the agent was putting his gun back in its holster when it accidentally fired. He was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury to his hip.

The agent, whose identity was not revealed, is part of the division that handles security for Nancy Reagan. The division had rented a portion of the shooting range Friday morning for regular training.

To be the "non-violent" ones, they sure seem to enjoy seeing other people hurt.

I was thinking the same thing...what does this incident have to do with President Bush???

And had this happened to Mrs. 0bama's secret service agent, I'm sure the DUmmies would be blaming the BFEE and talking about how brave this agent was.

I just took a look at the calendar and it says this is 2011.  Is Bush still in charge of the Secret Service?

For about as long as we taxpayers keep paying citizens to lay on their asses, mouth-breather.

I've had a lot of respect for Secret Service agents since seeing the agent jump between President Reagan and that Hinckley nut. He allowed himself to be gutshot in order to protect the President. That's what you call a hero.

Poor range safety. I'm no SS agent but my weapon is always clear before it ever stops pointing down range.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

A good friend of mine was a SS agent. He was assigned to Alexander Haig. I bought a 71 Combat Commander from him in 73. He needed money to get his family to Virginia. I still have it.

Anyway. The DUmmies are laughing at the same group of people who are responsible for protecting their fearless leader.

That's how I carry my .45 ACP! The most dangerous and worthless thing in the world is an unloaded weapon! It is what I have taught my kids and my grandkids for 40 years! A weapon is ready to fire every time! How many "accidents" are caused by "unloaded" weapons???????????

Number 1, you have much more respect for the weapon and treat it as such!

Number 2, I've seen and heard too many pawn shop owners, Convenience Store clerks, and Jewelry Store owners hit the trigger and find out durin' duress, they had the Damn safety on, nuthin' in the chamber, and end up pushin' up daisies or mortally wounded because they carry their weapon around as if they are afraid to hurt someone!!! Not a scenario I want to have to deal with, "after the fact"!

**** that!!! If I'm not around, I want "Toots" to know if she as to pull a trigger, it's goin' to kill the bastard threatenin' her the first time she pulls down!

I could never forgive myself if somethin' happened and my house gun, the .44 just went "click" the first time she needed it for self defense!!!!!!

ETA:

Same goes for my 1909 Double Barrel Parker Bros 12 gauge! It's loaded with double 00 buck, and ready at all times! It's definitely put up where ya have to reach to get it, but when you pull either trigger, by g*d it's gonna cut ya in half if you're in front of it!

One in the chamber okay. Chambered with safety off is what got Plaxico. To each his own, but I'm real uncomfortable with the safety off if the gun isn't in my hand. I don't see how you lose time, since it's so easy to move the safety off when you grip and raise the weapon.

I have a huge paranoia of being attacked while carrying my daughter or something else, like shopping bags.  If I only have one free hand, I don't think I'd be able to successfully take the gun off of safety, slide the rack and then shoot.  I like the convenience of taking the gun out of the holster, pointing, and shooting.  My gun is still on safety, but there is one in the chamber at all times.

My Dad is a NRA certified range Nazi.  It doesn't matter how many times anyone has been on his range, the first thing he requires is a demonstration on rapidly drawing the weapon and re-holstering the weapon before he will allow the weapon to be loaded.  A finger inside the trigger guard during the draw or the re-holstering is an automatic failure and a send back to re-training.  He is proud of the fact that in twenty years of doing this he has not had one injury due to accidental discharge of a weapon.

Plaxice was carrying a Glock that didn't have a manual safety. He was was that when the gun slid down his pants, he tried to grab it instead of letting it hit the floor. When he tried to grab the gun, he grabbed the trigger and it went bang. I teach everyone to just let it hit the floor. Plaxico's first mistake was that he was Mexican carrying the Glock. No holster, just stuck in his waistband.

I carry a firearm whenever I leave the house. 90% of the time it's a 1911. I carry it condition 1. One up the pipe, hammer cocked and slide safety locked. The other 10% of the time, I carry various bottom feeders. My Kahr's are double action only and have no external safety. My Sig 239 is a double/single action. It doesn't have an external safety but has a decocker. Action is similar to the Barretta 92/M9. While carrying a 1911 platform pistol, I wouldn't worry if the slide safety was clicked off as the grip safety has to be depressed in order to discharge. I could never carry my competition 1911's as the grip safety's has been disengaged and they average a 2# trigger pull.

I recently read a article by Mas Ayoob on the difference of carrying a handgun and getting it into action with the safety on or off. The difference is less than a second. I agree with you on taking the safety off as you bring the gun into action.
