.....

The family's ordeal began on a Sunday morning in early December, when the normally rambunctious (2-year-old) Malyia developed a fever and became lethargic, Ryan Jeffers recalled.....When her symptoms persisted the next day, Jeffers and Yang, his fiancé, took their daughter to an urgent care center, where specialists told them to go to the emergency room. By the time they arrived at Methodist, he said, splotches that looked like bruises had developed on Malyia's cheeks, and she was "getting really weak," he said. "After a while, she couldn't even walk," and her fever had jumped to 103 degrees.

Jeffers, 29, said he pushed for immediate care, but was rebuffed. After about five hours, he said, he ambushed a nurse and demanded to see a doctor. The physician took blood samples that suggested Malyia was in liver failure, Jeffers said. She was taken by ambulance to the pediatric intensive care unit at Sutter Memorial Hospital. Doctors there had her flown to Stanford aboard a helicopter.
....

It turned out the girl was in septic shock from a Streptococcus A infection that somehow invaded her blood, muscles and internal organs....The Stanford team put the girl on life support and gave her medicine to boost her blood pressure. They ultimately had to perform operations to amputate her lower legs and her left hand, which had been irreversibly damaged by a lack of oxygen.

.....

While Malyia's parents have medical insurance, many of their daughter's bills will go uncovered, including a $26,000 tab for her helicopter ride from Sacramento to Palo Alto, Jeffers said. The couple are paying just $10 a day to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, but must cover their food and transportation costs.

.....

Amazingly enough, after reading post after post condemning the hospital, the doctors, the nurses, US healthcare in general, and repukes...I did not find One Single Mention of anyone reading or responding to the DONATE link.  I know that is almost impossible to believe on a site run and used exclusively by the "loving, caring, generous" liberals of our country.   :???: :???:   :whatever:

34. "The best health care system in the world"..

... one wonders how often such debacles happen in those "socialized medicine" countries.

this family and little girl would have no legal recourse either. They won't be happy until all of us are at the complete mercy of the insurance industry and multi-national corporations with no way of redressing our grievances. It's the tea ****ers er baggers utopia. Welcome to the Republican vision for United $tate$ of Amerikkka folks.

Well, the free market says they will pick a better hospital next time...?

At least the Koch brothers don't have to live in a socialist country...?

Just for any lurkers....

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/09/02/koch-brothers-give-more-to-charity-than-to-right-wing-causes/

To be sure, the Kochs have given "more than a hundred million dollars to right wing causes" (which is their right, by the way). But in the last decade, it's also worth noting the Kochs have given more than $600 million in pledged or donated money to arts, education, and medical research, including (but not limited to):

New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell: $15 million

M.D. Anderson Cancer Center: $25 million

The Hospital for Special Surgery: $26 million

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center: $30 million

    Prostate Cancer Foundation: $41 million

    Deerfield Academy: $68 million

Lincoln Center's NY State Theater: $100 million

Massachusetts Institute of Technology: $139 million

Odds are, if the Koch brothers were contacted, they'd help this family, also...in complete contrast to the "compassionate" liberals on the DUmp that run their mouths (or fingers), but keep their wallets solidly under their butts.

This one sounds legit, but every previous plea for donations in the history of the DUmp has turned out to be a scam, from Bev Harris being $10 away from evicting President Bush, to the lucrative Andyscam, to the DUmmy (TSS?) begging for money to go skydiving. DUmmies always fall for a scam. This plea is likely legitimate and worthy of compassion and charity, so DUmmies will hold on to their weed money.

How many uninsured illegals were ahead of them at the ER ?
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

I haven't checked into the link, but know the story of the little girl was on several news sites recently.  I sincerely hope the donation plea is legit.

It is funny what gets the DUmp's attention, and what doesn't.  Oklahoma schools not far from here suffered a Meningitis outbreak last year, and one child had all 4 limbs amputated in order to survive.  It was a horrible, horrible story, but the child seems to be recovering...strangely enough, I don't recall this incident being used to condemn healthcare, repukes, Oklahoma, public schools, or anything else.  Weird, huh?

Beat me to it. HI5

I went to our local SoCal ER about four years ago and there was not a single white person in the standing room only lounge. Which means not a single person that was not on the medicaid. That's why an aspirin cost $15.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.
