The White House on Thursday said the controversial field of synthetic biology, or manipulating the DNA of organisms to forge new life forms, poses limited risks and should be allowed to proceed.

An expert panel convened by President Barack Obama advised vigilance and self-regulation as scientists seeks ways to create new organisms that could spark useful innovations in clean energy, pollution control and medicine.

The Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues "concluded that synthetic biology is capable of significant but limited achievements posing limited risks," it said in its first report.

Self regulation is okay for the scientist that could wipe out all of mankind with something created behind closed doors, but we need massive regulations for the pollution that companies may produce.

Well, knowing that all his past appointments and advisers have been socialists/communists, I feel real safe/comfortable... :whatever:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

The democrat party is the "BIG TENT" party. They have all the gay/pervert/lazy/crazy/stupid/socialist/communist/dead/illegal voters under that tent and now they're going after the test tube and turkey baster vote. They'll be turning over more rocks looking for voters soon.

Pretty cavalier attitude for something with the real potential to wipe out all multicellular life on the planet, although I suppose the research could be done anywhere already, it just doesn't have Federal funding at present.
