Scrooge Rush Limbaugh Claims The Poor Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Vote

On a day when the US unemployment rate rose to 9.8%, Rush Limbaugh used his radio show to argue that poor people should not be allowed to vote. While commenting about a piece in the Atlanta Journal Constitution about people lining up for housing assistance, Limbaugh asked, “ If people can’t even feed and clothe themselves should they be allowed to vote? Should they be voting?”

When he asked that question on Friday I knew the moonbats would run with it.
Rush sure knows how to tweak these idiots.  :lmao:

I may get slammed for saying this, but I don't think people on the gubbment dole should be allowed to vote. And to go even further, maybe only property owners should be allowed. And everyone who wants to vote should be required to take a basic civics test, such as being able to name who the speaker of the House is, etc. And the pass/fail question would be "What form of government did the Founding Fathers establish in the Constitution?". Anyone answering "democracy" would be automatically disqualified from voting.

Now that is hardly fair to those on the dole. How can they vote themselves more goodies, if they can't vote?

Ohh, now I see why you suggested that.  :-)

If you're sucking on the government tit, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.  When you're getting hand outs, you're going to keep voting for the money, not the candidate.  They don't care what the candidate stands for, as long as said person will make sure their checks keep coming.

Once upon a time that was the case "BUT" democrats needed more votes. Sooo.... And everyone who wants to vote should be required to take a basic civics test, such as being able to name who the speaker of the House is, etc. Once upon a time you were required to prove you had some education and intelligence "BUT" democrats needed more votes. Unless my memory has failed me, I believe that at our nation's founding only property owners were allowed to vote.......

I believe the intent was for voters to have a "vested interest" in the future of the nation......not so much in themselves.

That is true. However I do agree with the change of allowing non property owners to vote now.
In our country today not owning property doesn't mean that you are living off the govt by any means.
There are plenty of us out here who work our butts off to provide for our own needs and just can't afford to own property.

The "dole" was intended as a temporary emergency stop-gap for those in need. Unfortunately for many people it's a way of life.

Yep and the govt gives them just enough to live on, that way every 2 years they can promise to give more.
If the dems didn't have poor people to promise goodies too, they would not have a base.

So how much property and what kind?  I probably lease more than most of us would want to hike across, but don't own any of it.  Then I don't get to vote, but someone owning an 800 sq.ft. apt. on the east coast does?

Maybe "owning property" is a bit extreme. How about "being gainfully employed and paying taxes". That would qualify most of the middle class.

I can live with that as long as you aren't leeching off the govt then you get to vote.
May have to amend the gainfully employed for those who retired though.

Gotta agree with longview.  I lease, and I spent 4 years wearing the green suit for Uncle Sam.  Would those in my situation be allowed to vote?

I would set a limit on receiving direct government benefits to a limited number of years and for those under the age of 75 and then if remaining on them you can not vote until off for an equal number of years.

Three seems more then reasonable but not dogmatic about it.
That would exempt many of our elderly who grew up in a non entitlement world and didn`t have reason to prepare for the expense that it has brought.
It would encourage folks to get off the dole.

I can think of two ways that a "property owners only can vote" law could be misused to the detriment of the Republic.  Can you?

I do believe that any person who has collected a Federal check (other than fair market value for services rendered, or a refund for an overcharge/overpayment) during any two-year period prior to an election should be ineligible to vote in that election.  The right to refuse a check in favor of the franchise is implicit in that.

I've always felt that if people are relying on public assistance such as welfare (not SS or SSDI) food stamps, or rental assistance then they shouldn't be allowed to vote because they're always going to vote in their own interests and not the interest of the people actually paying. I also think a person should pass a basic civics test if they want to vote, you should know something about what you're voting for.
