School board chair steps down over ‘5 evil words’ speech

EPSOM, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire school board chairman has resigned after an outcry over a Veterans Day speech in which he told students to repeat what he called five evil words: socialism, communism, progressivism, totalitarianism and liberalism.

WMUR-TV says Ellis, a Vietnam veteran, claimed he was trying to teach students about enemies of the constitution.

That was the wrong thing to do in New Hampshire, I guess.

Good for Gordon Ellis. That took a lot of balls to do. I commend him for speaking the truth and standing up for what is right! :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

:II: to Mr. Ellis !!! One has to LOVE another who speaks the truth in today's world!! I guess that the phrase, "Kill a Commie for mommie" would be as equally rejected up there.....

Sometimes when you speak truth to power....it hurts the DUmmies to hear it........ :lmao:
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Bull shit, these words,---five evil words: socialism, communism, progressives, totalitarianism and liberalism, mean nothing to a child.

The idea is to slowly teach the MEANING of the words, the history of the word to the kids.

What does the word Evil mean to a 6 year old or even a 8 year old, these are kids and to young to understand the connotation as it regards those words.

Without a foundation on of the history behind the words, what is a child to think as they grow up and connect those words to the millions of people that live under society's that have no choice but to survive under that form of life.

Will these kids as they grow now to believe that those that live under this Evil word are Evil themselves.?

I still to this day with education and much reading about history and living in America have a difficult time figuring out how people of the world were content and happy to live under these 5 words. Wars came about to protest this life style, but, the life style keeps coming back for some reason that I do not understand.

The 5 words were not suitable for the ages of the kids----just as teaching sex education and required reading of  "MY TWO MOMS or any sex education for innocents under the age of 8-9.

Then to use the word Evil is a religious idea, this poor educator must have been really stressed.

8th graders Vesta -- they are old enough to know what each word means.

Sadly, the fact that they are in 8th grade is no guarantee that they know what any of those words mean. I once carried out an after-school poll on my students (10th and 11th grade) asking whether they thought capitalism worked well or not. Over and over again they had to stop and ask me what capitalism was. I would hardly characterize them as underachievers, but they weren't adults, and the school system teaches what it teaches. :(

Hey, at least we still think of those concepts as evil and wrong.  Most of our neighbors like VT, ME, and MA embrace them.

To be fair, Odin, Epsom IS fairly conservative, certainly compared to the western border which is infested with VT moonbat overflow, or the Portsmouth/Dover/Durham corridor, where the Republicans can be counted on one finger.  It's one of those cases like saying CA is a liberal infestation, when in reality only certain pockets are heavily 'Rat and the rest of the sparse population (but vast area) has little to no say in the matter.

Trust me, he's been getting mucho props of late on the local blogs...
