My Exit from DU in Protest:

I believe the best thing we can do in these days is put our hearts and our heats into the people and community around us and do whatever we can, wherever can, to feed the hungry, take care of the sick, shelter the homeless, love our neighbors, built relational ties and joy and devotion, remember what beauty is left in the world and let our global masters continue to destroy themselves.
Surely, they are doing precisely that.
As far as DU is goes, the latest round of liberal purges is more than my heart can stand. I've been around since 2001. First as Selwynn, who got banned because I voted "yes" in a poll that asked whether or not people questioning the holocaust should be allowed to speak, then explained my position in the thread: I find that position to be horrible, but I was an employee of the ACLU at the time and I believed it was better to allow free speech and then defeat lies and bad ideas with more, better, free speech. Skinner took everyone who voted "yes" for whatever reason and banned them without question. Now I've been here as Political Heretic, and I've done my dead level best to advocate for the left without being a purposeful troll. But what's become clear after the latest purges is that this site is blatantly anti-left. It's not "underground" in any way. It's serves establishment political power, not people - even when political establishment, and most tragically the Democratic Party, is failing the people.
Worse, the administrations of this site hide. They hide their actions, hide their decisions, hide their mechanisms. It's the worst kind of cowardice, because it affects countless other people without the guts to have a transparent system. Once upon a time there was an ask the administrators forum, but then the Admins didn't like criticism, so they deleted it. Once policies were discussed openly, but then there was criticism of draconian moves, so discussion of policies was forbidden.
The paranoia runs so high that sites like the now defunct People for Change, or Old Elm Tree or Progressive Independent are literally banned from being spoken, I a rule I chose to break as an act of conscientious disobedience to a ludicrous and childish act of pettiness. The greatest irony of all is that not days ago Skinner called Keith Olbermann a "whiner" for letting what people write in the internet get to him. Wow. Take a look in the mirror. Now its an matter of conscience. I can't and won't participate in a board that assaults the left, and cowers in the shadows without being adult enough to have transparency and accountability for moderators and admins, not just accountability for members. DU shouldn't be a one-way street. It should be a community partnership between members and facilitators.
Instead, DU has plunged into the gutter with the trash of the internet. It was once truly a place where liberals could come together and work together. Now true liberals in the old and long tradition of the term are hunted, while "new" Democrats flourish. Some manage to stick around, and I could have too if I had kept my head down. But its too embarrassing to be a part of something that has become so warped and sad.
Skinner, you are a coward. And you're site has become a disgrace. Shame on you and your team for suggesting that you are liberal or if not liberal at least "Democrats" and operating in such pathetic draconian style, all because your fraglie egos can't handle "disruption." Our country's only hope is disruption - so better get used to it...
