OK, I voted! observations from the ground

I live in a Republican County, my small town has no town races going on, so we're basically voting for our Congressman, Sheriff and County Freeholders. Republicans are energized! lots of people voting, and even though we have no big races going on, there's that happy feeling in the air with voters, lots of smiling, laughing and just having fun.

I initially took my elderly Mom and Aunt to vote than I picked up hubby and we went to vote. When I took my Mom and Aunt in there were 3 people in front of us, an older woman, a middle aged woman and a middle aged man, the man held the door for his wife and either Mother or MIL, then he cut in front of my Aunt and the door slammed in her face, I opened the door right away and the guy was a few feet in front of us, my Aunt said he's so ignorant, no doubt he heard that, than I said screw it and I said he must be a Democrat. After they got done voting the middle age woman asked the older woman something and the older woman said Democrat, no idea if she meant she voted Democrat or not, but I felt my feelings were right, the ignorant guy was a Democrat.

Other than that it's been great, turnout is just awesome.

My eyes popped when I went to our polling place in our po-dunk town. Usually, turnout is slim. There was a line, and a heck of a lot of people inside. When I put my ballot in, there were 101 ballots in the machine at 9:15am. Just awesome. Today is going to be one to remember.

Hubby was shocked! he didn't expect all those cars in the lot, and as we were pulling out cars were pulling in.

I voted before work.  Polls opened at 7 am CT, and was pretty busy for the pre-work crowd.

It's hard for me to relate local turnout to national trends as Oklahoma is so red. But, here it is a good sign for R state officials.

I live in a fairly moderate area of a Blue county.  Signs that I've seen have been fairly balanced between Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown.  I got to the polls just after opening, and they were starting out pretty busy.  I'm cautiously hopeful.

There are only a little over 400 registered voters at my polling place...when I went to vote at 10:00AM I was #78...that is awesome for my area and especially so early in the day.....

I took it as a good sign because since our County is so heavily Republican we really have no dog in this fight like other States do, so I'm attributing high turnout to Republican enthusiasm, and if we're enthusiastic when we have no dog in the fight than I can imagine how the other States must be feeling.

We went by the school where we used to vote about 10 this morning. I was really surprised at how many cars were there as reports had the early voting numbers high.

The GOP candidate for governor is from here, and was the mayor before he decided to run for governor. Our House Rep is an incumbent GOP and I've only heard 2 political ads for him.....he will win, no doubt.

Well.......we voted at about 10:00, and ours is a suburban/rural precinct.  In the nine years that we've lived here, there have never been more than a dozen voters present when we arrived.....

Today was totally different

The parking lot was full, and there was a line out the door.  We had to wait in line for nearly thirty minutes to vote.  Since Mrs. doc is vision limited, I have to fill our a "voter assistance" form in order to help her.......there was even a line for voter assistance.

When I asked the election judge to evaluate the turnout, he checked the book, and said that over 40% of the registered voters had voted by 10 AM.......he had never seen a turnout this large.

On the way home, listening to a local radio station, the newscasted announced that across the border in Kansas, the Secretary of State has upgraded the anticipated turnout for the state to in excess of 55%, which would be the largest in three decades......

For better or worse, folks here are obviously motivated.

I voted about 11:30 AM central.  I've lived in my current ward since June of 2006 and this was the most packed I've seen it.  Usually for spring elections I am about 80.  Midterms, about 100.  Probably I was around voter number 175 in 2010.  Today I was voter 297. 

The place wasn't exactly packed but it was doing brisk business.  They had volunteers in the rather small parking lot helping voters to park and I actually had to wait for maybe 30 seconds for a booth to open, which hasn't happened in my whole voting history, as best as I can remember.  Probably 2000 was the busiest I had seen but I lived in a much different ward back then and I don't think I was much over 100 that year either.

Of course, I live in the very liberal Madison WI so I have no idea what the turn out portends.  Russ Feingold has been stoking up the fear over Ron Johnson correctly calling SS and Ponzi scheme.

I hope it portend that not only WI voters fire Russ but we also fire our do-nothing congresswoman, Tammy Baldwin.  It is doable but not very likely.

My precinct is at the end of my street.  I voted in the early voting, a week ago, but when I drove by the school, there was a line formed.  At 6:45 am. 

Now, it is cold, dark and rainy.  I wonder how many are waiting outside now.

There was a line of only about a half-dozen people when I got there. In and out in about 20 minutes. I looked at the machine in which you put your ballot and it counted 211 ballots. The election guy noticed that I had looked and asked me how many I had seen, so I told him. He grinned and said it was a good turnout so far.

I live in a fairly small town, not more than 14,000 souls, but there is a sizeable Dem element here. My voting venue is a Bible College, so there aren't too many moonbats floating around - though they're hiding under various porches and in Mommy's basement.

You can just smell 'em.

I voted on Wednesday in town. The lady said it is always busy in our county. I will say that last week Mr cavegal called a friend he had not spoken to for years, the first thing he asked my hubby was... are you going to vote?!

Not many people and the ones I saw were mostly white.  To me, that's a good sign, because the polling place is at a county health office adjoining the city housing area.

Turnout in my town has been tremendous -- the 3.5 hours I was out there holding a sign I would say about 90% of the cars that went by me waved or gave the thumbs up for the GOP candidates I was holding signs for.   

The tide is turning ladies and gentlemen.  Tonight, history will be made.   You can't go bed -- you have to be up for this.  The enthusiasm here is just through the roof.
