Oh my.

It's a pretty trivial topic, but damn, I'm trying to drive some traffic to the deaf-and-hard-of-hearing forum on Skins's island, which is congested with cobwebs.

Costco hearing aids

One of the hearing aids I bought a few years ago through a audiologist gave up the ghost at last. Fell apart physically, in fact. This time around, I went to Costco. Thanks partly to technological improvements and party to Costco's prices, I got a new hearing aid that's much better than the old one and quite a bit cheaper. So far, I'm very pleased with it.

If you're in the market for hearing aids, check out Costco. They don't do hearing aids at every store, but here in Denver, there are quite a few locations that do.

Well, one is happy the primitive--who's unemployed and writes science-fiction books, I guess--found a cheap hearing instrument, but one gets what one pays for.

As usual, no primitives have noticed this campfire.

 :lmao:
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Cobwebs?  Why that forum is fairly booming when compared to the DUmmies of Wyoming section.

Years ago I knew the son of a hearing aid 'salesman'.  Lets just say at that time there were more sinners than saints within those ranks.  You may not always get what you pay for.

I have had tintinus and hearing loss for years all documented on yearly physicals and have had numerous visits to audiologists.  Currently I have a pair of aids (Ion IIRC) which were fitted and adjusted to my unique profile.  When I got them I had to pay the full cost.  The price has since dropped in half and I recently got a note from the audiogist saying my insurance would now cover the full cost.  Of course they also have a new aid that is "both new and improved".  Hum, what to think of that.

I still remember my great uncle who used an "ear trumpet".   He was deaf as a post which mom always said was a result of his eating too many eggs ( he was a chicken farmer ).

Damn.

Here franksolich is, as deaf as a post.

And a big, big, big diner-upon-eggs.

It might, or might not, be an old wives' tale.

Thank you sir, for the illumination.

My pleasure.  Great uncle John was quite a guy.  Ancient when I knew him.  He always put a rock behind the tire of anyone's vehicle who parked in his driveway (it was a little steep).  Just didn't trust them emergency brakes.

He was also a great shot with a rifle and enjoyed near perfect vision until his death I was told.  The hearing trumpet fascinated me as a little kid.

There were giants in those days, men who were men, and bore things gracefully.

It's pathetic how so many have turned into primitives since the dawning of the now-dissipating Age of Aquarius in the mid-1960s.

You got that right.  No Social Security for Uncle John he worked the farm until the day he died and maybe a couple days after.  Belonged to the grange, never drank, smoked, chewed or cursed.  Never went to church.  Never cheated or stole, lived with in his means  and scratching out a living on a rock farm with great stone walls where he  raised chickens for eggs.  Never drove a car.  Didn't trust them either.  His wife did get a phone but he never used it as he could not hear.  Another thing they had that fascinated me as a kid was a kaleidescope.  Funny what you remember.

He was also a great shot with a rifle ...

That probably had more to do with his hearing issue than eating eggs.
