Any fans of Pawn Stars?
« on: October 03, 2010, 06:28:01 PM »
So I just got home from Vegas, I was there last week having a relaxing few days off of work before heading to India (for work).

One of the things I just had to do was go visit the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop (Pawn Stars) because I'm addicted to the show.  It was a real treat to see this place first hand after watching several seasons of the show.

I must say, it wasn't what I expected.  It is, honestly, a dive.  :)  But it's a great dive to visit simply because of the celebrity status.

I was hoping to pick up a Rolex if I could get a good deal on a used one, but alas - there wasn't a good deal to be had in the place.  While it's divey, it's still pricey.  You would think with the massive amount of money they MUST rake in they would invest in some new carpet and some paint for those walls.

I saw several items from the show laying around.  Things like the WWII maps were hanging on the wall (not for sale), the mortar they fired in the desert was there... and some other things you would recognize if you are a fan of the show.

They were shooting for one of the up coming episodes too, which was neat to see.

We were lucky to walk right in, usually there is a line.  We didn't see any of the "guys" except one, Big Hoss and only for a brief moment as he passed from one door to another.  The staff assured us they were all in the back as it was a shooting day, but they were all busy.  The Old Man comes out every once in a while for pics, but we didn't want to wait around all day hoping to catch a snapshot.

I'll do it again the next time I'm in town.

That's the son's friend.  I don't think he's part of the family.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I like the show. Am I a "fan"?? Hardly. I would like to meet the Old Man sometime, as he's a retired fellow Sailor.  :-)

I'd also like to meet Chumley, manly to confirm that he's as dumb as he acts.

That would be Chumly and as an employee and family friend, he has more going for the show than the owner Rick and his old-man than Rick's kid.

I'm just an occasional watcher, I don't even know any of their names.

hmmm.  do you think he is going to get his own show?  what would they call the spin-off?  retard wars?  brain donors?

last week, rick told him to get some aging rock star to autograph an album so he could get more money for it.  and he did.  to HIM.  that was the maddest I saw rick since his honkin' big son bought a hot air balloon for $38K.

That looks like a 2001 Wide Glide on the right in the first picture.  Is it yours?

HA HA HA Oh Gosh!

I do occasionally watch the show and like 'some' of the junk that comes through the shop.
Chumly went to a Bob Dylan concert at a local casino and was able to get Dylan to autograph an album TO Chumly while Rick wanted just an Dylan autographed album to sell in his shop.
Chumly *IS* dumber than a bag of hammers - by show design.

I actually know a pawn shop owner here in Albany, OR that personally knows Rick. Rick's shop was just a little hole in the wall dirt box until The History Channel CHOSE them to showcase a new show they launched.

The hot air balloon episode was re-run a few days ago...too funny!

I am "friends" with Chumlee on facebook and I assure you that he is exactly that dumb.  He seems like a really awesome guy though.  Someone I would love to hang out with.
