Congress Punts on Taxes
By MARTIN VAUGHAN And JOHN D. MCKINNON

WASHINGTON—Democrats abandoned plans to vote before Election Day on extending Bush-era tax cuts for the middle class while eliminating them for better-off Americans, spooked by protests from vulnerable incumbents and bleak prospects for passage.

This is goin' to guarantee the loss of some of these Dems runnin' for their political lives. Wonder how they feel about the party abandoning them?

Problem is, they know damned good and well if they tried to debate it, the Republicans would make mincemeat out of them.

However, why the GOP isn't pounding the message that taxes WILL be going up (despite Obumbler's promise) on January 1st is beyond me.

Hi,

I think the libs have every intention of doing nothing and letting the taxes go up on January 1st.  By delaying things they have no vote so they are not officially on the record.  What I feel is they do not realize the repurcussions will be if they try to shove stuff like Cap & Trade, raising taxes or an amnesty bill through a lame duck congress.  The election will make it clear the current congress does not have any sort of a mandate.

One thing I hope is that Emmanuel quits before the election.  He is the intimidator and guy with the threats that got some of the idiotic bills like healthcare passed anyway.  With him gone, I doubt that things will get done quite as easily for Obama.

regars,
