We're not really sure how the check was stolen.  The book that the check was stolen from was from about a year (or more) ago.  We never have people over.  No babysitter, Carleigh's in an actual daycare center.  In order to find our checks, you would have to do a lot of digging.  They aren't just sitting out for one to grab when we're not looking.  It's just a headache.

We do have our new account set up though.  Still waiting for the refund from the money stole.  Hoping we get it tomorrow or Friday.

So sorry to hear about your money trouble with a check thief.  Scratching my head about how it could happen.
Dunno if you have dogs or cats or both, what I do when I'm not feeling like shredding my sensitive paperwork is rip it up a bit and then toss it right in the middle of dog and/or cat poop.  I doubt anyone is going to go digging there. :-)
Let us know what the investigation discovers because what happened to you could happen to any of us and it's really such a puzzle.
Here's hoping you have smooth sailing from here on out!!

No offense - but this sounds just like a DU bouncy thread!  Hope you get it resolved.

We had a bad CC charge on a card  once - a new card, used once locally and once by phone.  Someone wracked up up over $20,000 on a gambling website.

I have a theory to think about.  Say you get a low-level job answering phones taking orders taking CC info.   and verify the personal CC info including the number on the back of the card,

Who's to say some folks don't take those low-level answer phone jobs to get our personal info?

I don't have time to make up dumb shit on the internet.

Our money did get credited back yesterday.  I doubt we will ever find out what really happened.  The check processed ACH.  We will never see a copy of it unfortunately.

This is a VERY good idea.  We have four cats.  lol

I am VERY sorry I said that to you,  I was just trying to say how in the heck could that happen?  And my message was really meant to be this:

"Who's to say some folks don't take those low-level answer phone jobs to get our personal info?"

That's what happened to us, and maybe to you.

Again - my apology to you for saying what I did.  It was uncalled for and I deserve a  :hammer:

Glad you got your money back  :-)

I don't call the call center/customer service places to make payments.  Did you know most companies charge you a fee to pay your bill?  It's the dumbest thing ever.  I wanted to pay my Capital One over the phone when we lived in Phoenix.  Since we didn't have internet access at work, and the bill was due that day, so (not a bouncy, just the way I speak.. lol) I called the customer service to avoid the late fee.  Capital One said that it would be $10 to pay my bill.  I told them to forget about it and hung up.  Why should someone pay a company to pay their bill?

Anyway, don't worry about what you said.  It's just the internet and I try not to take anything too personally.

We pay all our bills by phone or auto deduct from checking account for no charge all the time, so your CC is odd.
I don't trust putting our personal info online.

I guess it's the luck of the draw who gets bilked, and when, eh?  It happens all the time.

Every time we use a CC, we're vulnerable.  I like using Paypal for online shopping.

Have a lovely evening.
