SELMA — On the eve  of 45th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act, no one showed for a rally for voter registration.

Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Convention, was meant to have members at the National Voting Rights Museum on Thursday evening to call citizens of Alabama encouraging them to vote.

Only Allison Binder, a student from Birmingham, showed.

“We wanted to come out and encourage people to vote,” said Binder. “Not who, but just to vote. We felt that it was important because of the timing with the 45th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. We wanted to take advantage of the right that marchers in this city gave them.”

Binder said the organization had set up rallies in Birmingham, Tuskegee and Montgomery.

“I know there was about 50 people that showed up in Birmingham,” said Binder. “I’m not sure where everyone else is, I got the call and came. I called my director and she couldn’t get in contact with them. It’s pretty disappointing right now.” ....
