Never mind.

This intrigued me for some strange reason so I now have it in the crockpot. LOL It's gotten quite a few rave reviews, too. I don't have bottled BBQ sauce and plan on making one that's more of a vinegar based sauce.

http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/slow-cooker-pulled-pork/D...

Ingredients

* 1 (2 pound) pork tenderloin
* 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle root beer
* 1 (18 ounce) bottle your favorite barbecue sauce
* 8 hamburger buns, split and lightly toasted

Directions

1. Place the pork tenderloin in a slow cooker; pour the root beer over the meat. Cover and cook on low until well cooked and the pork shreds easily, 6 to 7 hours. Note: the actual length of time may vary according to individual slow cooker. Drain well. Stir in barbecue sauce. Serve over hamburger buns.

1. Love the taste of root beer!

The July 2010 "Bon Appetit" magazine has a recipe for Root Beer Baked Beans that looks intriguing to me. Probably a bit redundant with your pork tenderloin spiked with root beer, but I would like to know how your pork loin version tastes. I bet it smells heavenly simmering in the crock pot.

3. I do, too!

I always have since I was a kid. I don't drink it often now since I don't drink sodas except for the rare occasion. But I had to run a mile over to our little gas station/convenience store/pizza place/car wash/video arcade to get the root beer. They had either A&W Diet Root Beer or IBC so I bought three of the IBCs - two for the pork loin since it was over 4 lbs. and one for Bill and I too split. Tasted very good.

It isn't smelling yet but I bet it will smell good soon.

5. Root beer floats over vanilla ice cream.

It would "kill" me now, but oh, such summertime bliss!

6. I have really never cared for root beer floats. I like my root beer straight up and unadulterated.

8. I'm going to have to talk my husband into building a smoker. I love smoked meats. I guess, from the comments I'm reading on my recipe, is that the flavor of the root beer is supposed to mimic somewhat the flavor of the smoking process. I doubt it will be as good.

9. If you want a smoker I would look into the sight listed below. We have had ours for ten years and there are lots of helpful hints and recipes.

10. Thank you!

That looks very helpful. We have never been very good at grilling meat outside of hamburgers, hot dogs and brats. I really want to learn how to do it right.

11. I just tasted the pork without any sauce on it. It has a slightly sweet taste and it's pretty tender but could definitely use a little more seasoning. We're pretty tired and it's 6:30 here now so we're going to eat it this way tonight but I'm going to shred it and add the sauce japple posted and leave it in the crock pot for a little while longer.

14. Last week I saw a segment on America's Test Kitchen that used root beer to give tang to KC barbecue pork ribs. I can't wait to try it.

19. For all the rave reviews at the allrecipes link, it was just okay. All those folks who said it rivals any BBQ restaurant they've ever been probably just don't get out much.

Good to see you, Beth!

Yeah, it's odd that Doug's ex-wife and franksolich would happen to be absent at the same time.

Coincidence, probably.

20. Bingo!

It did add just a slightly sweet taste to the meat but that was about it. Cover it with bbq sauce and it makes no diff at all.

If I'm reading that right, all she did was follow half the recipe.  She took a tenderloin of something, placed it in a crockpot, and dumped a can of root beer on it.  And then she wonders why it needs more seasoning?  Duh!

Yeah I noticed she says a "bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce". All she did was add root beer to BBQ sauce.

Me thinks a can of real beer would work a little better. Most BBQ sauces I know of already use beer!

I still think Mrs. Alfred Packer is using "pork tenderloin" as a euphemism for "homo sapiens."

Just yesterday I saw an article with recipes on making your own root beer to use in BBQ sauce for ribs.
DUmmies are lazy if they don't use home made root beer.  :lmao:
