Majority of all parties say it is disrespectful to victims of World Trade Center attacks
Flemington, NJ, June 1, 2010 – Results of a new national study among 1,001 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that Republicans were the least favorable of plans to build a mosque and Islamic community center near “Ground Zero†with the majority of Republicans (63%) reporting that it was “not at all appropriate.â€
The study was conducted during May 27- June 1 by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website, to obtain Americans’ perceptions of the approval of a community board in New York to build a 13-story mosque and Islamic community center near "ground zero," the site of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Among political parties, 63% of Republicans reported that plans to build the mosque were “not at all appropriate,†compared to 37% of Democrats and 39% of Independents who indicated that the plans were “not at all inappropriate.†The majority of all political parties reported that it was disrespectful to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks to build a mosque near ground zero.
In addition, more women (70%) than men (58%) reported that the plans to build the mosque and community center were disrespectful to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks.
