Immigration protest set for Diamondbacks-Cubs game
« on: April 29, 2010, 09:05:51 AM »
Chicago-area immigration reform activists upset about a tough new law in Arizona are planning a protest outside the Cubs-Diamondbacks game.
The four-game series is slated to begin Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Arizona's law makes it a state crime to be in the United States illegally and lets police question anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. The law is slated to take effect this summer.

Activists around the country have called for a boycott of Arizona tourism and of state businesses, including its athletic teams.

Organizers say the protest is a way for ordinary people to show their displeasure over the law.

Because the Arizona Diamondbacks had so much to do with enacting this law. :banghead:

There is still a strain of midwestern contrarian in a lot of Chicagoans, this has about as much chance of improving attendance as discouraging it.

Since approximately the 2003 season, almost every Cubs game is sold out anyway.  I can't imagine this stupid protest idea will carry any weight.  Although the media will cover it like it is a big deal. :mental:

Love of the Cubbies is prima facie evidence of their contrarianism right there.

Just saw this on Facebook: Wrigley Field today...Diamondbacks inside.  Wetbacks outside.

I just heard someone give an apt comparison to this act of idiocy.  It's like protesting at the New York, New York casino in Las Vegas to complain about something going in in New York City.

If anything, they should have been protesting the way the Cubs have been playing.
