(CNN) -- A Michigan man could face life in prison after he allegedly tortured and ultimately killed his girlfriend's 4-year-old son last week for wetting his pants, prosecutors say.

Brandon Joshua-Frederick Hayes, 24, "systematically beat" Dominick Calhoun, 4, "pummeling [him] with fists and kicking him" on his arms, legs and genitalia, Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton told CNN.

Hayes also apparently burned the boy in the course of the torture. "The knuckles across one hand were charred," Argentine Township police chief Dan Allen said.

Prosecutors arraigned Hayes on Thursday on nine charges, including one count of first-degree premeditated murder, one count of first-degree child abuse and one count of torture, which by itself carries a possible life sentence.

I get so angry at parents, usually the moms, who put their children in these situations.  Out of pure lazy, selfishness!  So their own marriage or shack up didn't work.  Effing pony up and raise your children!

My anger is so futile.  It does nothing to help a single child.

The feelings about this from my mother are-----

When a divorced woman or never married woman brings a NEW man into the lives of her children there are dangers everywhere.  Few will warn the mother that she and family may suffer.

One must ask about the motives of a man who marries or moves into a ready made family, especially if they cannot support the family and depends on the support of the state for his wife's children.

The 26 year old male that marries or moves in with a 45 year old woman with teen age girls.  One never knows.

The mother that ignores the red flags when their daughters stick up for their mothers boyfriend when a dispute happens.    Their daughters begin to draw away from them, become secretive and ignore them.

Then on to the woman that marry or move in with a man that has custody of  his children.  Danger when the male stops being a parent and turns a child over to his new wife and depends on her to raise his children, he takes the side of his wife regardless how she parents the kids.  Then when the couple have children of their own the fathers kids get pushed to the curb.

Darn but both Mom and I have been watching Court TV and the facts of life that happend all around us that we never knew about boggles our minds.

This is not a new phenomenon.

Back in 1978, when my ex was doing a General Surgery residency at Univ of Virginia, I went into the hospital one evening to have dinner with him. I was to meet him in the ER as he was seeing patients in there that night.

I get there, and I'm waiting for him back in the ER in a hallway, and I hear this very young child whimpering. Then this woman starts screaming "I's gonna get you for this!!" and much more. Next thing I know, the hospital security guys show up.

I asked a nurse what was going on and she said that my husband had called them....

When we finally got to sit down in the cafeteria and eat, he told me what had happened.

A mother had brought her 2 yr old little boy in with a cut penis. Said he fell down the steps and hurt himself.

Yeah right.....

Turns out, she was trying to potty train him.....by SLICING his penis with a razor blade!

My ex called security, and CPS....she was arrested, CPS took the 2 children that were still at home, and the little boy once he was released.

Ex had to testify in court, she went to jail and the kids were taken away to foster care. We got phone calls in the middle of the night until we changed our phone number.



There have always been monsters out there.....we just didn't hear about them until the internet and umpteen news channels that were nationwide were able to report this horrendous kind of stuff.

It's situations like this, that I think states need to bring back public punishment.....stoning, eviseration, cut off certain appendages.....

You are assuming that these abused kids are up for adoption.

Kids can only be put up for adoption if the parents relinquish their parental rights. This type of parent isn't going to give up their "cash cow".....they are collecting welfare for these kids.

Sadly, we only find out about the majority of these kids who are so abused, when they are either brought into the hospital in horrific condition .... or they are dead.

School teachers are supposed to go through training to identify abused children. I even had to go to a training class in order to substitute teach, and also when I ran the clinic when my kids were in elementary school.

This is great for kids once they reach elementary school.....but what about the wee little kids who aren't in school or daycare facilities?

There's no one watching out for them unless another family member reports the abuser. Or the kid goes to the pediatrician for well check ups....how many of these kids are getting their regular check ups? Infants and toddlers are supposed to see the dr several times a year until they are about 3...then there's a gap for the 3-5 year olds who aren't seeing the dr as frequently and they aren't yet in school where teachers are able to observe them.

Well, I was wondering about the foster care system too. If someone did have $100 million how many kids could they get? Lets say he was able to use about a million a year from that I bet someone could support a bunch. Different Strokes meets Professor Xavier!

There is probably a limit on how many they'd let someone adopt or foster anyways. Even if they have a huge house and a huge estate in the country.

Its just idle dreaming at this point. Powerball tonight though.

I wonder how many lotto winners actually do use a good portion of it to help others? I bet there are some, and not just donating to other organizations. I use to say I'd start a homeless "rehab" center to help get people back into a productive life. Now I don't know.

I get tons of shit from my inlaws because my 3 year old isnt all the way potty trained. It has been suggested that she needs a "pop on the butt" everytime she messes in her pants. I tell them what they can do with that idea. All kids are different and no child should be punished for no making it to the bathroom. That being said, I hope those who killed those innoncent babies over messing in their pants (over anything really) deserve a special place in hell.
