Why do you keep your windows open so everyone can see into your house?

I was walking in this neighborhood the other day and I noticed that at night a lot of people leave their curtains wide open and you can see their entire living-room. With their nice big 50 inch HDTV and game systems and nice furniture. Makes it real easy to decide which house to rob.

Seems like a lot of people do this. I don't understand it myself I'm really paranoid about people seeing into my windows cause I walk around un my underwear all day eating out of a cereal box.

Sounds like he did more than just notice.  Lots of detail for a passing glance.  The second part is just nasty.

3. One time I went outside on the porch for a smoke break and could see a family eat dinner for 20 min

They sat there with their blinds drawn all the way open not caring that anyone could see them eating some kind of pot roast and watching tv on their big flat panel.

I would just be so uncomfortable if I had my shades open all the time enough to where the guy across the street smoking cigarettes can see me eat. Its just creepy as hell.

YOU'RE creepy as hell. Sounds like he was either up close to the window or he had binoculars out.

4. There's a house around the corner that does that

My side street sort dead ends into the main drag, so when I pull up to that intersection to turn left or right, straight ahead is a picture window and the people's big TV screen clearly visible, so it's sort of a game to try to figure out what show they're watching. sometimes they pull sheers, but usually just wide open. I have sheers on my front window just because I feel like I have the nosiest neighbors on my block.

I have the feeling you're the nosiest neighbor.

9. As my TV is a mere 32"...

As my TV is a mere 32", I have no game system, and my two-year old furniture is from Haverty's, I do it as a way to discourage people from robbing me.

Well, that I and like to look out the windows in my place from time to time (and I'm not paranoid, so there's that too...).

Everyone in this neighborhood leaves their windows open.  Some don't even have curtains in their living room or dining rooms.  The house we moved into didn't have anything on the dining room windows.  You could see right into our dining room, living room and kitchen.  I don't like the thought of people passing by (like the OP) looking at me eating so I close the curtains I put up a few months ago when I am fixing dinner and when we are eating.  I leave them open the rest of the time.  We live on a rather busy street.  I'm not used to such a busy street, I haven't made up my mind if like it or not.  I do enjoy all the people who walk by from sun up to sun down but the cars that drive by gets a little old.

I see people in my neighborhood without front door coverings because of the beveled glass.

I don't know if they realize people can still see inside.  I have mine covered.  I don't want any DUmmy peeping in my house.   :-)

Re beveled glass, I've noticed the same thing. Of course, I have to put my eye right up against one of the clear spots.

Our closest is at least that far away and all of us on this dead end dirt road just keep to ourselves just fine and dandy.  Most homes are not seen from the road.  We like it that way, too. :cheersmate:

Yeah, it's a half a mile up my driveway to the road. About the only thing that peaks in is the occasional goat.

My closest neighbor walked into the steel railing of the staircase on her way to her apartment... shook the whole thing.  Must have hurt like hell.

I laughed.

I do...or at least I've got a general idea.  And no, I'm not going there anytime soon, BEG.  You're safe.

As for the OP, damn that's one creepy dude.  Hope he doesn't mind being frozen in the winter, or covered in skeeters and ticks in the summer.  BTW--did I mention one neighbor is a cop and the other a fireman?

Come on over DUmmies. I'm assembling the pieces and parts for my new video surveillance system even as we speak. The first camera goes up this weekend with 4 more due in maybe as soon as this afternoon. You can watch all you want but you'll be watched right back...and recorded in living color.  :-)

I don't have any window coverings on any of my windows.

When the trees are leafed out, my house can't even be seen from the sides and back.

My human neighbors aren't in sight range, and the 4 legged ones frequently look in, but so far they aren't talkin' or takin' pictures.  :-)

We have a couple of horned owls around here.

We've had little birds fly into the windows quite often. Most of them survive, but a few have had their necks broken... :(  I don't like birds but I still don't want them hurt.

Our cats take care of those hurt ones, but they are getting OLD.  Only one hunts anymore.  Scooters - 21 years old and still just a kitty at heart.
