Lack of abortion rights could spell the end of the Democratic Party

Edited on Tue Mar-02-10 12:23 PM by Cyrano
It looks like this "monster" called a "health care" bill is going to come up for a reconciliation vote (only 50 votes needed) in the senate.

As bad and insufficient as this bill is, it's a first step. However, the ReThugs and some Dems are trying to wipe abortion rights out of this bill.

Will the Democratic Party ever wake up? Will they ever remember who they represent? Will they ever recall that they are Democrats???

Assuming this bill comes up for a reconciliation vote, and a woman's right to abortion choice is demolished, then the Democratic Party can also consider itself as demolished.

I really don't believe that this will happen. But given everything the Dems have caved in on, who knows? Can the Democratic Party as a whole really be this stupid? Who knows?

Does anyone here on DU think the Dems would ever let this get through? And does anyone think Obama would sign it?

2. They won't "abolish" choice but they weaken it and support making it difficult

and Obama will sign it.
Wrong.

the help of their doctors.....

Who is stopping them?  No one. What you mean is that you want that, but you want me to pay for it.

20. The Insurance Reform bill doesn't alter that freedom

it just neglects to pay for it.

It's not an ideal bill, but it improves some things.

Federal funds have been forbidden for paying for abortions for some time. So no , it doesn't neglect it.

8. Flame bait my ass. Try reading something other than DU and

you'll find that there are those in congress who have this issue as part of their agenda.

And why in the world would I wish for something like this?

When you make an accusation (or, an attack like you've made), let's hear something to back it up.

Oh, and in case you didn't hear it the first time, "flame bait my ass."

11. By removing funding for abortions.
:hammer: Abortions are not federally funded now.

For being  self proclaimed geniuses, they are pretty facking stoopid on matters they claim are important.

The Democrats want to mandate that all insurance policies contribute to an abortion fund, this means they aren't federal funds. It also assuages their guilt of child murder by making EVERYONE complicit in their immoral crimes. Which is the real reason they want it paid for this way. Yes, this was in the House and Senate plans as far as I know.

I thought there was stricter language against any type of funding in the house bill.  The DUmmies were all up in arms about the Stupak amendment.

The DUmbasses won't be happy until every woman that has an abortion gets $1000 from the governm...er taxpayers.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

It made it through the house vote, but it would never make it through the reconciliation process.

There is nothing at all in those bills that would prevent them from getting the abortion if they are willing to pay for it, or if they have a commercial insurance policy that will pay for it.  The restriction (Or lack of clarity in the case of the Senate bill) is only on public funding, not on obtaining the operation.

Abortions are not federally funded now.

But they want the gov't to assume payment for all medical procedures. Ergo, if gov't pays but abortion is not covered then aborts are not funded and will not occur. Of course most abortions now are paid for out of pocket but DUmbasses think all things should be federally subsidized. If they could they would have breathing done for them by bureaucrats.

The question is: how many private insurance plans cover elective abortion? I'm guessing not many but definitely some. What we see here is the interesting--yet continually recurring--phenomenon of the DUmbasses being torn between their competing mantras. Imagine the DUmbasses coming to terms with realizing private insurers can offer more services at cheaper rates because they aren't beholden to political interests only market demands.

Almost as if the party is being surgically de-cerebrated, having its brains siphoned out and dismember to allow its remains to pass freely into a waste disposal bin.

Ironic, huh?

It's also partly why the queers disrupt Christian church services, and want recognised queer "marriage" when civil unions will give them every material benefit--they, and the baby killers, know they are evil and immoral, and I never yet saw anyone taking the fast lane to hell who didn't want passengers.

Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land
I'm on the highway to hell

And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell

My favorite non sequitor from them is that if abortion isn't funded then neither should medication for erectile dysfunction, et. al.  They want to place deciding whether or not to carry a living human to term is the same as having a disease or a medical condition.

I'm against abortions 99 point something percent of the time.

But here's a thought. We federally fund any and all abortions for a period of 40 years then stop....bye that time there will be very few voting liberals left. ....and tomorrow night Pinky, we take over the world.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

Abortion "rights". That is a very disturbing thing alone.

Aren't abortions federally funded already via Planned Parenthood  :mental:

The ACLU recently won a case against Joe Arpaio where he prevented Maricopa County inmates from recieving abortions.  Throughout the ACLU's entire press release, they refer to the "Constitutional" right to abortions.  There may be a "legal" right to an abortion thanks to Roe v. Wade, but I sure don't see it mentioned in the Constitution anywhere.

Just the opposite is in the Declaration of Independence (part of the Constitution), "The right to life..."
