Obama Health Care Plan Drops Public Option

Source: Huffington Post

After a week when the public health insurance option gained serious momentum, President Obama decided not to include one of the most popular elements of reform in the plan he intends to present to a bipartisan group of lawmakers Thursday.

The Obama plan bridges differences between the Senate and House plans on issues both large and small, but when it comes to the public option -- the House bill includes one and the Senate's doesn't -- Obama is entirely silent.

Last week, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow that Obama would "absolutely" fight for a public option if Senate leadership decided to go for it. "f it's part of the decision of leadership to move forward, absolutely," Sebelius said. "The president said from the outset he thought that was a great way to provide cost reduction and competition moving forward, but if that is not the choice of the majority moving forward, I think there are other ways to get there."

Since then, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he would work with his colleagues to find the votes needed for it; Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), the third ranking Democrat, pushed for it to be included; and Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.), chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, joined in the call. (Follow the ongoing push for the public option here.)

5. Cue defenders! And to think they said he "really supported it"

Guess reid didn't tell him what to think. he did say if reid supported it he would. The president is an appeaser and chicken.

2. you know, I wasn't aware that the word "bi-partisanship" meant screwing over the people who voted

for you, and giving the opposition every damned thing THEY want.

yet another in a long series of disappointments and betrayals.

More like 77% of people are against HCR as it is being done by the Organizer in Chief.

Rasmussen said that Obumbles ratings drop every time he mentions health care.
Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.

In fairness to 0-bama, his ratings pretty much drop every time he mentions anything...

Let nothing frighten you.

God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.
He who has God lacks nothing:
God alone suffices.

How delusional can you get? I want these idiots to show me one poll, other than a DUmbass poll, that shows the opposite of what I have read! It is beyond my comprehension how one can be so ignorant of the facts! You really have to live in your own little universe to believe the crap the spout day in and day out!

Hey lurking DUmmies, show us the facts! If you think the HuffPo is a legitimate news source, you are already proving my point! That much stoopid should kill you!

Not even MSNBC or CNN show the American people in favor of this. I'd certainly believe them before I'd believe you, and they're about as far to the left as you are! You're really in for a rude awakening!
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

At a cost of a Trillion dollars and reduced benefits. Something ain't right.

I thought I heard on the TV last week that the party of one only had 18 or 19 votes for this. So a 51 vote victory is a pipe dream.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

No, it is right.  This is what happens when you get big gov in on any activity.  Pay more, get less.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

What I meant was that the Senate's last proposal was slightly under a trillion while the House was a little over a trillion and still had 35 million people uninsured after it was enacted.

Someone is losing more than a Pony.

I thought we only had 35 million uninsured to start with.  Or is it 45 million?  Fifty?

What a waste of time and money.
