poll: do we intimidate the primitives on Skins's island?
« on: January 14, 2010, 01:47:12 PM »
Do we intimidate the primitives on Skins's island?

I run this "poll" about every third or fourth month, to gauge our progress.

Now, of course most here watch the primitives simply for amusement; after all, the antics on Skins's island are usually more fascinating than half-hour situation comedies on television.

And a few of us watch the primitives for anthropological purposes, so as to better understand the evolution, or devolution, of a human society.

Perfectly harmless reasons, amusement and scientific research.

However, it appears that some primitives view our watchership with alarm and paranoia, as if decent and civilized people are up to something malicious, or at least some sort of mischiefery.

It doesn't take much to make a primitive paranoid, Pedro Picasso being the classic textbook example of that.

I'm starting to slowly suspect perhaps we do intimidate the primitives, although that's far from our motives for watching them.  We're nice people, after all.

For example, the "deaf and hard of hearing" forum on Skins's island used to be reasonably busy, for a little-itty-bitty forum--that is, until franksolich wandered in there.  Since then, it's been about as busy as a cemetery, and one has to axe his way through killer cobwebs to get through it.

The "cooking and baking" forum used to be rather laid back and carefree, but now there's a whole lot of primitives skittish there, on edge, always nervous.

For a while I thought about testing this speculation by watching the primitives in the "sports" forum and quoting them here, to see if our watching them would have any effect, but to be honest, since the cboy4 primitive, the only primitive who knows excresence about sports, was mausoleumed, the sports forum has been dreary reading, like watching a bunch of village idiots discussing nuclear physics.

It is amazing how often they refer to this site but won't:

A) Let us on their site to confront them

B) Confront us at our site.

It's like the guy driving away screaming back out the window, "I'd've totally kicked your ass!"

One of the banes of my existence, being deaf, is public restrooms.

Public restrooms have locks on their doors.

I'm sure they've happened, but I myself have never ever seen a public restroom with a lock that didn't work.

It has happened that I've walked into a public restroom, and there some guy is, his pants down, sitting on the porcelain throne.

And acting utterly shocked that I've seen him.

This is the same impression one gets from the primitives, when they discover conservativecave.

We intimidate them because they are already insecure in their beliefs, and all we're doing is pointing and laughing at them furthering their insecurity.  Its really a win-win situation.

I think my vote changes everytime.

Lately I think we intimidate them and it is good.
A few have ventured here trying to escape their misery, many seem flustered that their idiocy is so easily mocked and can`t be answered.

Gives me a warm feeling. :-)

Sometimes I wondered but I was always pretty sure we did.  But Allentownjake spelled it out earlier this week when he stated that "DU is a little bit creeped out about your obsessive following of the goings on over there," which is a sort of roundabout way of saying they read us making fun of them and it makes them really, really, boiling mad.  :-)

More might come over, but unlikely they'll give away their primitive user name.  As AJ said, since he wasn't going back to the island "I'm free not to worry about a TS for just stopping by and saying hi."  How's that for being scared of Skin's?

Some might try and play wise by signing up under someone's name who they dislike hoping Skin's will ban them, but most won't be that clever.

I don't think we bother many of them - probably because most of them are unnoticed by CC or are moles who enjoy the attention. THose who we do annoy though -- they are fire-pissin' angry..  :-)

Well, it's their own fault.

If the primitives wouldn't make such ridiculous statements, they wouldn't be ridiculed.

Indeed. Its like any other game - once it stops being fun, it stops being played. However, I don't think there is any threat of the entertainment well that is Democratic Underground running dry any time soon.

I have to go with "not sure" this time around.  Don't remember what I voted last time around.  I can't help but think they must be intimidated about having their hate and irrationality exposed to the light of day, and yet the continue with the lunacy.  So if they really are insane they wouldn't feel intimidated.  But not being insane myself, I expect rationality.

Mrs. Dawson is on chemo.
That, and her genetic calamity are the only reasons I take no offense at her insulting personal references to me.
Wait, did you say chemo?

Conservatives in general intimidate the goons. That is why they do not allow a conservative to post there.
They can not stand to have their beliefs challenged in the least unlike us, who enjoy getting challenged because it only strengthens our beliefs when we are challenged.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

If we DO intimidate the people at DU, then they really have a psychological problem. That may reinforce that saying, "Liberalism IS a mental disorder"..... :clueless:

I think that the only way I would have missed it would be if I had been dead for the last five years.  She's so profiligate about reminding everyone in existence that anyone in a coma would know--through the comatose state.

Maybe intimidation is why Pam dug up an excuse to post her Pistol & ***** pic earlier?

Hey, if you dont want to be made fun of, perhaps dont describe your bowel movements, your drug addiction, or your weird furry sex preferences. I am a sharer, but I dont give a rat's rear if people think I lie, think I'm weird, whatever. Its just me. So, I have to go with No, we dont intimidate them. They like the attention. Bitching is just a way to get more attention. And the rest are too stoned or stupid to be intimidated.
There is no virtue in compulsory government charity, and there is no virtue in advocating it. A politician who portrays himself as caring and sensitive because he wants to expand the government's charitable programs is merely saying that he is willing to do good with other people's money. Well, who isn't? And a voter who takes pride in supporting such programs is telling us that he will do good with his own money— if a gun is held to his head.

Anybody who is capable of displaying even flashes of intelligence and the ability to put together coherent, logical arguments scares the begeezus out of the primitives.
