PC or Mac?
« on: November 20, 2009, 08:01:05 AM »
So this year, I'd like to buy myself a new computer.  I HATEEEEEEEEE Windows Vista.  Microsoft came out with Windows 7 as some of you already know.  I was going to switch to an iMac but I read good reviews of 7 and they are comparing it to a Mac OS.

Any suggestions?

PC. Thor is in the process of building a new machine with Win7 on it for Mrs. E. (Sshhh. Don't tell anybody. It's gonna be a birthday prezzie.  :rotf: )

Mac aficionados are pretty passionate about their machines. That's good, I suppose, but to pony up the kinda money they demand is not what I wanna do.

That's for you to decide. I use Windows 7 and I am happy with it.

I couldn't get past a mouse with only one button.  There was no way to right-click on anything.

I have a PC, and I prefer it over my laptop (a Sony Viao).

I've never used a MAC....

I have WindowsXP and like it, but am looking at getting a new computer after first of year...I guess by then they will all be Windows 7. As long as it works with what I need it to....I don't care.

I've been tinkering with PCs of one sort or another since 1978. Anyone old enough to remember when BASIC was the commonly used programming language?? I've used both Macs and PCs and I have to admit, Macs have their advantages in graphics rendering, but in processing power, the PC rules. The bigger problem is that Windows is a bloated OS, whereas the Macs OS tends to be much more trim. Then, there's all the security holes in Windows that EVENTUALLY get fixed. I haven't played with a Mac in about a year. Mac has also come a long way as far as third party program compatibility. Despite all of it's flaws, I'll stick with the PC. (The one Mac that I had the opportunity to work on had the same hardware as a PC for the most part) Of course, were I given a new Mac, I'd probably use it.

thanks for your suggestions, I think I'll stick with Windows and hope 7 is better than Vista.  The price for the new iMac is 999...and it's a very small screen.  You definetly get more for your money with the Gates machines.

Yeah...I was wondering about how much the Mac costs....I found out.  :o

I'll most likely be staying with an HP.... I can afford them...
