Will Barack Obama be able to replicate Reagan's victory with the high unemployment numbers? Only if we can start producing jobs by 2012. In the meantime, he should not waste the opportunity to lay the blame where it belongs, at the feet of George W Bush and the Republicans.

Please, please, please try and run a campaign on "Unemployment was higher under Reagan" and "It's Bush's fault."

Let's see, when Reagan came into office, Carter left him with interest rates at 21%, inflation at 14%, and unemployment at 7.5%.  In 1983, interest rates had dropped to 13%, inflation was reduced to 3.5%, and unemployment was at 8.3% at the end of the year and had dropped to 7.2% by the time the election was held in Nov, 1984.

Yeah, you idiots, try running against that.  I can't count how few will flock to the polls saying "Well, unemployment is really around 20% and we're still losing jobs, but Dear Leader telling me that I should always blame Bush and never him has got my vote."  :mental:  If individuals actually do that, then hang it up, this country is cooked.

BTW, in 1983 this "He blamed it all on Jimmy Carter. Successfully, I might add." crap is just a lie.  By 1983, Reagan didn't cry that he was still dealing with Carter's economic mishaps, unlike the child in office now who can't accept responsibility for anything and wants to destroy those who would dare point the finger at him.

As far as Dear Leader and 2012, we'll have to see what happens in 2010.  If, like Clinton, he can get a majority Congress that can reign in his radical Marxist agenda, if he greatly moderates his positions like Clinton was forced to do, he could get another term.  However, if he's allowed to roam free and destroy like he is now, then it might be a different story.

Ahem,

The "malaise" of the late 70's and early 80's was caused by the Carter Administration and it's very
short sighted economic and foreign policies. The Big Three networks, led by Tom Brokaw, reported the misery index nightly. For those too young to recall, the misery index comprised, unemployment, interest
rates and inflation. Carter and his Administration were incompetent at best, impotent at their worst.
Witness the Iranian hostage crisis in which radical Islam was birthed,(Thanks Jimmuh!) The radicals in Iran knew that Carter was beyond weak and took full advantage of it. Why? because they saw the same
President and how the Soviets took advantage of him and gave rise to the Afghan fiasco.(Thanks, Jimmuh, again!)

Jimmuh also gutted the field force of the CIA operatives in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Southwest Asia in favor of satellites under his CIA director, Stansfield Turner. (trifecta, Jimmuh!)

Where in the world is the world having the most problems today? Eastern Europe (Serbia), the Middle East, and Southwest Asia......thanks Jimmuh!

Jimmuh's response to the gas crisis was to lower the thermostats in the White House and appear on TV in a sweater and tell us of the malaise in America. Proper decorum does not allow what Jimmuh really is.

Reagan, and to their credit, the blue dog democrats in the House and the Senate, decided enough was
enough, and cut taxes in order to "stimulate the economy". The rest is history. Tax Revenues went up to the Treasury, spending increased because the Democrats still controlled the Congress, but the Reagan vision for America based on the tenets of freedom and liberty, unleashed the advance of science and technology that started with Reagan, through Bush I and well into the Clinton presidency.

Reagan was the finest person ever groomed to be President.

Should I mention that no one is amused that "Friends of Angelo" like Dodd and Towns still sit on finance committees, and that the Senate couldn't find a thing wrong with obvious bribery from Countrywide (the poster child for fraudulent home loans which brought down the industry)?

The GOP couldn't have scripted the Democrats' actions better, to set up for recapturing the House in 2010. Democrats need to seriously clean house as the FIRST order of business - put aside health care and everything else - because nothing we can do can change the situation that the regular Joe finds himself in as long as all legislation must pass through the hands of industry-bribed politicians.
