5. It's incredibly annoying

I don't remember a peep about it being a referendum on Bush during the local elections. But one Republican win means the takeover is coming! It's ridiculous.

Moley-moley-moley-moley !!!!

6. When did off-season elections in 2000-08 become referendums on Bush?

All the reporting I see says it's A factor, not THE factor. I've lived in 5 countries and it's the same everywhere, no matter who's in power.

Once again, a poster with either limited capacity for memory, or one who lives in denial-land. However, a poster  with common sense, or at least a memory longer than a goldfish's replies..

Lets see, a Republican wins in NJ, freaking NJ!! Obama won there last year.

A HUGE win in Virginia. Obama won there last year.

RINO is slaughtered in NY-23 and a guy without a party nearly wins anyway!!

Oh these are significant. They are signs of what awaits next November.

If they put off ObamaCare until 2011.... it may never happen

I saw something on Drudge which has Christie winning NJ by 5%.  Considering all of the voting-of-the-dead, the absentee votes that were cast which really weren't cast (check RedState for details), and the other tricks to help the Democrat that are done by the Dems, I'm shocked.

Moderates are going to run for the hills from the Pelosi bill.  She didn't have 200 votes as of Monday for it--I'd be surprised if she has 175 now.

I was sweating bullets about that, until the final totals were in.

I assumed Christie had to be ahead by at least 20% so as to win by 50.1% (in the "official" count), counteracting the "votes" created out of thin air by the corrupt political machines of New Jersey.

I have no doubt Christie won by a larger margin than just 5% in the honest votes cast, but am grateful the Democrats didn't have enough foresight and enough time to create enough "votes" to overcome him.

We really need to get some election reform going.

That needs to be a priority of the next Republican Congress.

Never amazes me how they're willing to lie to themselves about both what they've done in the past and their refusual to admit what brought about current events.

The highest priority, otherwise, they'll just make more votes next time.  They won't be suckered into thinking they have a "safe seat" again.

Having lived there, a lot of you do not understand NJ.  The election process is not particularly corrupt, the way Chicago or Michigan are; it's not a model of perfection, but it is pretty much on the up-and-up.  Everything else is corrupt, though, from the way construction contracts are done, to trash services, to unions, to municipal payrolls, to the parties themselves.  The major sources of it are not so much party loyalty as plain old money, nepotism, institutionalized graft (Enabled by institutionalized inefficiency), and organized crime.

The big central-authority cities are outside Jersey, it is a vast network of densely-packed small-to-moderate-sized towns, including a lot that are bedroom communities of Philly and NYC, with a couple of moderate-sized cities like Trenton and Newark thrown in the mix (Now Newark is pretty crooked, but it just isn't big enough relative to the densely-packed towns and small cities in the rest of the state to matter all that much).

Heck, next to the way the Philly elections are run, ours look pretty squeaky clean!  That being said, I was still sweating it out until around 10-10:30 last night when everyone started calling it for Christie . . .
