I dunno if this is so terrible. I remember that "Portnoy's Complaint" was a popular book back in the 70s, maybe earlier.
I remember that, I read part of it. Seemed overdramatized, autobiographically self-absorbed, kind of stupid, and full of ethnic New York Jewish angst and Yiddish idiom to a tedious degree (Of course I find just about anybody's angst excessivley tedious right of the bat). Popular enough, but I couldn't sustain enough interest to read the whole thing. Not that it was school reading, of course.
