Picked up an old cast iron dutch oven at a yard sale yesterday.
The pot has a glass lid. No information as to whether this lid can go into the oven. Anyone know? I'm sure it is original to the pot.

2. I never trust glass in the oven
not since the first Pyrex pie plate exploded on me when I set it down on something I didn't know was damp.
I'd measure the pot and go web shopping for a metal lid.
But that's just me.
People who aren't clods have managed to use Pyrex and tempered glass in their ovens all their lives.

I'm no cast iron expert, But don't think I've ever seen any cast iron with glass lids.

6. It fits so well, I never thought it was not original. The cover has molded "made in USA" inside the rim, no other words like Pyrex. It has little bubble shaped ridges on the inside top of the dome shape. I assumed these were drip ridges so the condensation would drip back into the pot. I think I will not use the glass in the oven, just in case it is made only for stove top use. It is a size I do not have and will be great for pot roast. A good buy for only a dollar. The best part,it is nice and clean. Old seasoning but not old encrusted with built up old grunge. Just a quick wash and set to go.

7. I take back part of what I said .......
.... I've never seen old cast iron with glass lids. Many newer pieces do, indeed have it. Not seeing your item (and even I could see it, what do I know?? ) it might be an old cast iron pot with a modern lid.
But as you say .... for a buck, none of this even matters! Use it and enjoy it!
By the way .... I **would** use the glass lid in the oven. We have a fair amount of Corningwear and it all has glass lids. In fact, Corningwear is all glass - even the white pieces.
