Can you recite your license-plate number on demand, or do you have to go look at it first?
I've never paid attention to license-plate numbers I've had, as there was nothing unusual about them, nor was there ever an incident (traffic ticket or accident) demanding that I recite it.
If I would need to know my license-plate number, I would have to get up and go outside and actually look at it.
I know my father paid attention to such details, because after the family moved to Nebraska from New York, and ultimately lived in four different counties, while the first part of the license-plate number changed, reflecting the county in which the family lived, the last three digits, in all four counties, were always "485".
License plates--and this was before a thing such as "personalized plates" evolved--were usually given out at random, but apparently the paternal ancestor had some clout somewhere, so as to always get "485".
I don't think "485" had any particular significance to him; it was probably just that it was the first number randomly given to him upon his arrival in Nebraska, and since it seemed a good commonsensical number, he stuck with it. Not in license-plates, but in other things, I'm like my own father in that way.
