She had refused to let her friends into the house in Heaton Mersey, Stockport Magistrates' Court was told.
Her friend Roy Moran said the 77-year-old started shopping to escape youths who once plagued her home.
Mr Moran told the court: "She said it gave her pleasure to buy things, she only bought things she really liked."...
A sad story


On a lighter note, what do you buy too much of?  For me it is books, I have a perma-stack of books waiting to be read.

Of late, sheet music.

I am within an hour of completing a simple Excel database of my own personal sheet music.   :o   I had no idea I had that much stuff.

Some of it, like the Bach cello suites, I'll never play.  :bawl:

Why sheet music that you won't play? With the books I like to have them in case I suddenly feel the need to re-read them although I have so many that I rarely do.

the example I quoted, the Bach cello suites, are copies that I remember stealing borrowing from a friend 30 years ago.

Playing Bach is not something that is just done. It takes time, effort, and love to play it right - qualities that I am desperately short on these days.

Presently I'm working on Monti's Czardas and Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, in addition to the folder full of stuff that I'm supposed to keep under my fingers.

Freakin' work gets in the way of my music.  :banghead:

Tools of all descriptions. Mechanical , electrical , carpentry - all good.

I, too, buy a lot of books....but, for the most part...we both read them, then they get passed to friends.

If you asked my other half....he'd probably tell you I buy too much kitchen stuff. I like to find stuff at Big Lots, Ross's, Marshall's, TJ Maxx. Gadgets, serving pieces, foods(jellies, sauces, etc).... and cookbooks.  :-)

We must be related, I love buying kitchen gadgets the only reason they haven't got completely out of hand is that I have only got seriously into cooking in the last 10 years my love of books is much more long standing!

I need to "weed out" some cookbooks again...they have gotten out of control and taking up 4 shelves in the pantry...about 12 linear feet  :shucks:
