The Southern Baptists don't condone women being ordained because the Bible does not recognize it (at least as far as I've seen). The fact of the matter is that men and women in general are different. That is not to say that one is better than the other. Just that they are different. Women are generally more compassionate and nurturing than men. A pastor that is really following the Bible occassionaly has to make some stands that are not very nurturing. It is really a complex issue that is too deep and possibly volatile to go into here in just a few words, but as always where faith issues are concerned the DUmmies (and in this case Jimmy) are making it into something that it is not.
As to the Southern Baptists subjugating women, the DUmmies (and apparently Jimmy) want you to believe that the Baptists expect women to be slaves. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The Southern Baptists are trying (with their imperfect human minds) to follow the Bible. So what does the Bible say?
It says (in the New Living Translation)...
Gen 2:24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
So a husband and wife are to be united into one. That doesn't much sound like slavery.
Eph 5:28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man is actually loving himself when he loves his wife.
Eph 5:33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
So a husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself, and a wife should respect her husband. Still doesn't sound like slavery.
Eph 5:25 And you husbands must love your wives with the same love Christ showed the church. He gave up his life for her
So a husband should love his wife so much that he would die for her. Nope, still not sounding like slavery.
Now the Bible does say that a woman should be subject to her husband. Not to other men, but to HER husband. Once more, this is another complex issue that is too deep to go into in a few words. But, to be brief, does being "subject to" as mentioned in the Bible mean slavery? Not based on the previous verses. Also, keep in mind that while Jesus was on earth He was essentially subject to God in heaven; however, at the same time Jesus was God. In other words Jesus was equal to God but subject to God.
